Wrexham have been on an incredible journey under the guidance of Phil Parkinson, as he has guided them through the English pyramid, winning three consecutive promotions with the club.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac appointed him ahead of their first promotion campaign as they got out of the National League and back into the EFL; however, the journey has been incredible since then, as they are now competing in the Championship.

Parkinson was given backing for the campaign in the second tier, as Wrexham spent £33 million on summer signings, with 13 making their way to the Racecourse Ground.

After a poor start to the campaign, there were rumours that he may lose his position as manager, with several alternative managers to take his role at Wrexham mentioned.

However, Parkinson sent a defiant message to his doubters with a victory over Norwich City before going on a four-game unbeaten run in the Championship.

While rumours continue to circulate about whether Parkinson is the man to guide them in the Championship, further, it must be remembered it was he who had to be convinced to join them while they were in the National League.

Phil Parkinson explains why he joined Wrexham

Phil Parkinson had been a constant presence across the EFL as a manager since 2003, meaning he had almost 20 years’ experience before assuming the role with Wrexham, and he dropped down two divisions to take on the job after his last job having been in charge of Sunderland.

As he explained in his first press conference, he said: “Initially I spoke to Les Reid, and he spoke to me about the plans for the club.

“I know all about Wrexham anyway because of its history and its stature in the game.

“Then I spoke to Rob [Mac], and he just sold me the vision and the plans for the club going forward, and I just thought what an exciting project to be part of and you know, I was really keen to play my part in the journey that the club’s about to embark on.”

Rob Mac was correct about the journey of the club

These comments from Phil Parkinson may have been ones he had uttered before at previous clubs that he was in charge of previously; however, this time it has truly come to fruition even though he had achieved promotions prior.

Parkinson, like many others, would not have believed that he would guide them on three consecutive promotions in a row when he was appointed manager of the club, as it had never been done before.

However, the owners of Wrexham are ambitious, and this has been proven during their four years of ownership.

Rob Mac clearly laid out the ambitions and the plans for the club to Parkinson, and he would not have had a better opportunity to be able to create the team he wanted with the level of funding or facilities previously, and this has seen him make history with the club.
