Wrexham confirmed the signing of Sam Smith from Reading on Friday and now want another striker through the door.
Apparently, Wrexham striker targets are like busses, you wait all month for one to arrive and then two come along at once.
Just a day after he was linked, Sam Smith has joined the Red Dragons in a club-record transfer deal.
The 26-year-old has scored 11 times in League One already this term and looks to be a massive upgrade on Ollie Palmer.
When Smith was first linked, it seemed likely, especially so late in the transfer window, that he would be the club’s final addition, certainly in the striker department.
However, another forward could now be on his way to the Racecourse Ground before the transfer window slams shut.

Wrexham pushing to sign Jay Rodriguez from Burnley
It has been known for a while that Wrexham wanted a striker with Championship experience through the door in this window.
However, though Smith is a solid option, he is only really proven at League One level – notching just eight outings in the second tier.
But now, at the same time the Reading ace was announced, it has been reported by journalist Mike McGrath that the Welsh outfit are in form Burnley’s Jay Rodriguez.
He wrote on X/Twitter: “Wrexham showing huge ambition in EFL League One. In for Jay Rodriguez from Burnley in package worth £15k per week including add-ons. Sam Smith signed from Reading”.
What Wrexham fans need to know about Jay Rodriguez
When it comes to experience at a level above League One, Rodriguez will certainly bring that.
The 35-year-old began his senior playing career with Burnley before enjoying stints with the likes of Barnsley and Southampton.
While plying his trade with the Saints, the Wrexham target earned high praise from his manager at the time, Mauricio Pochettino, as per the Irish Independent.
He said back in 2013: “He is a player that ever since I arrived has been really confident and playing basically all the games.
“I am just really happy with him and all my players because they showed a great capacity to adapt to this new brand of football I want to play. He is a player that has a great dynamism, great technical quality.
“He is obsessed by football, lives for football, has a great mentality and is always available. The sky is the limit for him. I don’t see a roof – there is no limit.”
Rodriguez left Southampton in 2017 for West Bromwich Albion before rejoining Burnley in 2019.
He has made 258 Premier League appearances throughout his career, scoring 76 goals and providing 24 assists.
