Former Sheffield United striker, Billy Sharp has suggested that he would like to join Wrexham, despite plenty of reservations from fans.

It has been a great start to the season for Wrexham with the Reds currently sitting in second place in League Two.

This has signified a great achievement for Phil Parkinson who hasn’t been without injury and suspension issues this campaign.

Especially in forward areas, this has been apparent with summer signing Steven Fletcher sustaining a lengthy injury. This has been added to by Paul Mullin who was injured in pre-season and then suspended in recent weeks.

Although players like Ollie Palmer and Sam Dalby are more than good enough, the squad depth has been questioned. This has seen a transfer rumour arise which hasn’t pleased the majority of Wrexham fans.

What has Billy Sharp said about Wrexham?

It is safe to say that most Wrexham fans do not like Billy Sharp. This comes after his antics after Sheffield United beat the Reds in the FA Cup last season.

After a 3-3 draw at The Racecourse, Parkinson’s men travelled to Bramall Lane looking to take another Championship scalp.

Following a tough encounter, the Blades ran out as the winners and Sharp decided to react in a certain way. Following the full-time whistle, the Englishman celebrated in front of the Wrexham fans and players. This was much to the disdain of Parkinson who confronted him on the pitch.

This has even seen Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney speak about Sharp in ‘Welcome to Wrexham’. With that being said, Reds fans aren’t fond of the striker and wouldn’t like to see him at The Racecourse any time soon.

Although this may be the case, last week Frank Sinclair said he would be a great signing for Wrexham. Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sharp has spoken out about the rumours that have arisen.

On that, he said: “Wrexham are doing really well, fair play to them. I don’t hold grudges. If that were one of my better options, why not?”

Sharp appears that he would join the club should an offer come in. With Parkinson in charge and the potential fan reaction around this means it doesn’t make sense.

Although he is a great goalscorer and has shown that for many years in the EFL, he is very polarising and not exactly liked in North Wales. He scored six in 12 games for LA Galaxy so does have pedigree but represents a risk.

This doesn’t seem like the usual PR-savvy move that Wrexham have become accustomed to and as a result, probably won’t happen.
