Championship midfielder ‘can’t find his rhythm’ after missing out on Wrexham transfer

Rotherham United midfielder Jamie Lindsay may be wishing that a late move to Wrexham had gone through.

Wrexham managed to get a few pieces of business done in January.

Luke Bolton and Jack Marriott both arrived at the Racecourse, handing Phil Parkinson another right wing back and another striker.

That was pretty positive business but Wrexham could have added another just before the window closed.

Reports suggested that a club-record deal to sign Rotherham United midfielder Jamie Lindsay was being targeted.

The deadline passed without a deal being done but boss Parkinson even hinted that there was another target who couldn’t quite be brought in.

That player is thought to be Lindsay and we could hardly blame the Scot if he now wished the deal had gone through…

Jamie Lindsay ‘can’t find his rhythm’ after missing Wrexham transfer

Lindsay continues to feature for Rotherham United, but the Millers are sitting rock-bottom of the Championship.

Relegation to League One looks almost nailed-on now and Lindsay’s role has been up and down.

Lindsay started twice after the transfer window ended, featuring in defeats to Southampton and Leeds United, but was only a substitute against Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday.

Lindsay was brought back in against Coventry City, then benched again for another 5-0 defeat, this time to Norwich City.

The Rotherham Advertiser have now noted that Lindsay is struggling to find momentum in the second half of the season, with his post-Wrexham fate proving to be ‘frustrating’.

“Frustrating second half of the season for him. Not being used enough and can’t find his rhythm,” they wrote after the defeat to Norwich.

Rather than playing a part in Wrexham’s exciting push for promotion, the 28-year-old finds himself in and out of a team struggling for points.

Lindsay is out of contract this summer though and will surely be looking to leave Rotherham on a free transfer given his strange role of late.

We wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Wrexham rekindle that interest, especially as no fee will be required for him this summer.

Wrexham will almost certainly be looking to add a midfielder this summer no matter what happens in terms of the push for promotion.

Injuries have been a problem in midfield of late and that Parkinson seemingly saw Lindsay as a major addition to the engine room in January.

It wasn’t meant to be back then, but with his summer departure looking more and more likely, Wrexham will surely be paying very close attention to his situation.
