Wrexham are making some big moves in the transfer market this summer, breaking their record on two occasions.
The 2025 window kicked off with the signing of Ryan Hardie, who joined from Plymouth Argyle for a reduced fee thanks to a relegation clause.
Danny Ward followed through the door on a free, then after a couple of weeks with little activity, Wrexham have been very busy in the transfer market.
Their most recent signing saw Lewis O’Brien join from Nottingham Forest in what is now thought to be a new club record deal.
Earlier this week, Wrexham signed Josh Windass on a free transfer after the attacking midfielder left Sheffield Wednesday.
Now, one EFL pundit has offered a glowing verdict of the former Owls ace.

Wrexham signing Josh Windass praised
Sheffield Wednesday have endured a rough couple of seasons, with their woes off the pitch leading to Windass’ departure.
Despite their struggles, Windass has continued to be one of the Yorkshire club’s top performers.
And EFL pundit Benjamin Bloom, speaking on his YouTube channel, has given his verdict on Wrexham’s move for the 31-year-old.
He said: “I mean, that’s just an easy pick up that. Really like Windass, totally ready to go next season, 31.
“I mentioned in the Sheffield Wednesday video about the release that Sam and I were talking about him playing off the front in our, was either our team of the half-season or our team of the season. Scores big goals, scored from inside his own half, scored the winning goal in the play-off final in the 124th minute.
“I would assume that most Championship squads, even if he was going to be an impact sub, would have found some use from Josh Windass, and with that experience, with that quality, a little bit of je ne sais quoi, I just think it’s a really nice signing that one.”
Josh Windass Sheffield Wednesday stats vs Wrexham midfielders
Operating primarily as an attacking midfielder just behind the striker, Windass scored 13 goals in 44 Championship games last term.
That was more than any Wrexham player, including strikers, managed across all of 2024/25 in every competition.
| Player | League goals |
| Josh Windass | 13 |
| Elliot Lee | 8 |
| Ollie Rathbone | 8 |
| George Dobson | 1 |
| Matty James | 2 |
It remains to be seen if Phil Parkinson will use Windass in the midfield three or play him just behind Ryan Hardie or Sam Smith in a similar role to what Elliot Lee adopted at times in the previous campaign.
