Wrexham hope to reach the Premier League one day and Shaun Harvey thinks one player will feature in the top flight of English football during his career.

The Red Dragons won promotion from League One in April and are now set to compete in the Championship for the first time since it was rebranded.

While Wrexham haven’t kicked a ball in the second tier since the 1980s, the club already have long-term plans to reach the top flight.

Rob Mac played down ‘consolidation’ earlier this year after the club’s latest promotion.

Ryan Reynolds backs Wrexham to reach the Premier League at some point as well, which has always been the ultimate goal of the owners since they took over.

And one of their current players is being backed to reach England’s top division, hopefully with the Welsh club.

Shaun Harvey backs Max Cleworth to reach the Premier League

During the latest episode of the Fozcast, Ben Foster spoke to Wrexham chief Shaun Harvey.

Amidst a conversation about transfers and players’ valuations, Harvey used Max Cleworth as an example.

And when doing so, he tipped the centre-back to reach the Premier League one day, hopefully with Wrexham.

He said: “Max Cleworth, young player, Wrexham all the way through. I think [he’s] got a tremendous career ahead of him.

“He’s got a tremendous career now, but I think he will play in the Premier League at some stage, God willing it’s with Wrexham.

“But when you look at somebody like Max, what is his value? Well, he hasn’t played a Championship game yet, I’m sure you’d agree with me, you think he’s got a chance.

Foster responded: “He’s good to go, he’s good to go.”

Harvey continued: “So it’s a case of he’s worth more to us in our team than arguably somebody else will pay for him in their team because he’s not got that proven track record yet.”

When does Max Cleworth’s Wrexham contract expire

Cleworth joined Wrexham as a youngster, arriving from Connah’s Youth in 2014.

He is one of the very few players still at the club following the takeover from Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.

The 22-year-old has made over 100 appearances for Wrexham and was especially crucial in 2024/25, scoring an impressive seven League One goals and providing two assists while operating on the right of a back-three.

Cleworth’s current Wrexham deal expires on June 30, 2027.
