Ex-Wrexham defender joins new club, back-to-back promotions leave him wanting more

Wrexham allowed Jordan Tunnicliffe to leave the club last summer after working out a minor issue with his contract.

Wrexham made a number of changes last summer as Phil Parkinson tweaked his squad after promotion to League One.

Ben Tozer joined Forest Green Rovers and Luke Young was released, later joining Cheltenham Town as Wrexham said goodbye to two brilliant leaders.

Young was Rob McElhenney’s favourite player, but Wrexham let him go as there can be no sentiment in the charge for Premier League football.

Jordan Tunnicliffe left Wrexham for Solihull United, but only after resolving a slight issue with his contract at the STōK Cae Ras.

Ex-Wrexham defender Jordan Tunnicliffe rejoins former club

Wrexham’s retained list at the end of the 2023-24 season showed that defender Tunnicliffe had been let go at the end of his contract.

However, there was a mistake in Tunnicliffe’s Wrexham contract as he was actually contracted until 2025, rather than 2024.

Wrexham resolved the matter and allowed Tunnicliffe to move on, paving the way for his move to Solihull Moors.

Tunnicliffe made 23 appearances in the National League last season but is already on the move once again.

Kidderminster Harriers have announced the signing of Tunnicliffe, as they look to engineer a promotion push from the National League North.

This is a return for Tunnicliffe, who spent three years with Kidderminster between 2014 and 2017.

The 31-year-old has admitted that his two promotions with Wrexham have given him the taste for more – and he believes everyone at Kidderminster wants promotion too.

“The pull for the football club is obviously the size of the football club, I think it’s a big football club for the level,” said Tunnicliffe.

“I want to be at a football club that want to achieve promotion and want to win football games. I think, experiencing promotion in the past, that’s what every footballer’s got to strive for – it’s one of the best feelings you can have in football.

“I know Kidderminster had it two seasons, three seasons ago when they got promoted from the Conference North, and I think everyone is pulling together to try and achieve that again,” he added.

Jordan Tunnicliffe reunites with former Wrexham teammate

Tunnicliffe’s return to Kidderminster means he will now reunite with a former Wrexham teammate.

Christian Dibble is Kidderminster’s first-choice goalkeeper and the pair will now join forces again.

Tunnicliffe and Dibble spent six months together at Wrexham in the 2022-23 season, before Dibble was released on a free transfer.

Dibble has impressed for Kidderminster, matching the club record for most clean sheets in a season.

Dibble and Tunnicliffe will now reunite and hope to taste promotion back to the National League next season.
