Wrexham had a very productive 2024 summer transfer window and have started the new season well.

Phil Parkinson was backed heavily by owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds during the most recent transfer window.

Eight new faces arrived at the Racecourse Ground over the summer, with the club’s transfer record broken twice.

It was first surpassed when Wrexham paid £500,000 for Ollie Rathbone from Rotherham United in early August.

Then, on Deadline Day, Wrexham confirmed the signing of West Bromwich Albion striker Modou Faal for a new club-record fee of £590,000.

This influx of new faces has allowed the Welsh outfit to make a superb start to the 2024/25 League One season.

After securing a 3-2 win over Wycombe Wanderers on the opening weekend of the campaign, the Red Dragons drew 0-0 with one of the promotion favourites, Bolton Wanderers, before hammering Reading 3-0.

Most recently, Wrexham beat Peterborough United 2-0 away from home on August 31st.

Former Premier League midfielder Calrton Palmer makes Wrexham prediction

After their win on Saturday, Wrexham sit second in the League One table after four games.

Parkinson’s side are only behind Stockport County on goal difference, with Birmingham City on the same points as the duo as well.

Now, with Wrexham flying high in the early stages of the campaign, former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer, speaking to Football League World, has backed Wrexham to be among the promotion favourites this season while also tipping them to sign more players in January.

He said: “They have spent well. You look at Birmingham who have spent a lot of money, the Jay Stansfield signing is a signal of their intent, but when you are able to spend money to buy players that are better than the league you’re playing in, you give yourself a chance of promotion.

“I fully expect Wrexham to go on, and only two teams go up automatically in League One so it’s going to be interesting.

“You know Wrexham, they will go again in the January transfer window if they’re there or thereabouts (at the top).

“It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Wrexham go up again.

“It’s a very, very competitive league, so it’ll be interesting to see, but I fully expect Wrexham to be either in first or second, or in the play-offs.”

Will Wrexham get promoted this season

Even the most loyal Wrexham fan probably did not expect their team to start 2024/25 so well.

The Welsh outfit have held their one away from home against one of the best sides in the division.

They have also scored plenty of goals despite star striker Paul Mullin missing much of the campaign.

There may be some slight issues at the back for Parkinson to deal with and there is heavy competition at wing-back but for the most part, things are looking positive.

However, the main test for Wrexham will come later in the season when players are tired and the quality of their squad depth is tested against some of the bigger teams like Birmingham.
