Wrexham may well be forced into the transfer market for a new sticker this summer following a major blow over star goalscorer Paul Mullin.
Phil Parkinson is preparing for life in League One but has already been dealt something of a blow.
Paul Mullin has been forced to undergo surgery this summer in an attempt to solve issues in his lower back and hamstrings.
That means Mullin looks set to miss pre-season and potentially the early weeks of the season, possibly leaving Wrexham without a key man.
Mullin has only ever played 20 games at League One level and scored three goals; that was with Tranmere Rovers back in the 2019-20 season.
Mullin fired Cambridge United to League One in 2021 but then chose to drop down to the National League with Wrexham.
That means Mullin will be desperate to prove himself in League One, but his injury leaves Wrexham with a decision to make.
Wrexham target Ronan Hale joins Ross County
Wrexham may be tempted to go for another striker this summer in order to give Parkinson another goal threat.
Free agent Stephen Humphrys has been linked with a move to the STōK Cae Ras but one rumoured target can be ruled out.
Reports in January suggested that Wrexham were showing a real interest in signing Ronan Hale from Cliftonville.
Derby County, Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers, Blackpool and Peterborough United were also thought to be keen.
Hale hit 51 goals in 82 games for Cliftonville and was backed for a move to the Championship this summer.
The 25-year-old – formerly of Birmingham City – seems to have been a name on the Wrexham radar but he won’t be heading to Wales.
That is because Hale has now completed a move to Scotland, finalising a deal with Ross County.
Ross County celebrate Hale deal
Hale is a name for Wrexham fans to forget about this summer but his move is a source of real excitement for Ross County.
Don Cowie’s men have lost striker Simon Murray to Dundee and are now looking for Hale to take his place.
Boss Cowie has now told Ross County’s official website that Hale’s goal record in Northern Ireland is simply ‘exceptional’.
Cowie noted that multiple clubs want to sign Hale, but he has chosen Ross County – leaving them ‘delighted’.
“We are delighted to sign Ronan, he has an exceptional goalscoring record in Ireland and had multiple clubs interested in him. We are delighted that he has chosen to join Ross County and look forward to his time in the Highlands,” said Cowie.
Wrexham may well have fancied signing Hale in January, before luring Jack Marriott to the club.
Now targeting an even higher calibre of player upon winning promotion to League One, Wrexham may well have some bigger names than Hale in mind as Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds look to aim for the Championship.
