Wrexham striker Paul Mullin has completed his move away from the STōK Cae Ras having joined Wigan Athletic on loan.
Wrexham fans knew this day was coming, but it doesn’t make it any easier.
Paul Mullin has now officially departed Wrexham, completing a loan move to League One side Wigan Athletic.
Mullin has been Wrexham’s goalscoring hero ever since joining on a free transfer from Cambridge United in 2021.
Mullin’s record of 172 games and 110 goals is frankly incredible, and his service to this club will give him a place in the hearts of Wrexham fans everywhere.
2025 saw Mullin’s playing time diminish, and with Wrexham now preparing for life in the Championship, the striker is on the move.
Paul Mullin reacts after completing Wrexham exit
Mullin will spend the season on loan at Wigan and, as things stand, return to Wrexham next summer.
The harsh reality is that Mullin may have already played his final game for Wrexham, and this temporary goodbye is simply a precursor to a permanent one.
The move at least allows Mullin to go and play games again, with Wrexham fans surely keen to see him play regularly elsewhere rather than sit in the stands in North Wales.
Mullin’s switch to Wigan has been heavily rumoured in recent days, and the deal is now done.
Speaking to Wigan’s official website, Mullin admitted that he is excited for the next chapter at Wigan, having written quite the story with Wrexham.
Mullin highlighted his goalscoring qualities but also his work rate and determination, vowing to give his all for Wigan while praising boss Ryan Lowe.
“I’m excited for the next part of my story,” said Mullin. “The Gaffer has outlined his plan for the season, and I’m hoping to take his trust into the season and make it a really successful one.
“As a player, I give absolutely everything and work as hard as I can. I’ve scored a lot of goals over the last few years, but more than anything, I give my absolute all for the Club that I’m playing for, and I’m going to do that again with Wigan,” he added.
Paul Mullin becomes Wigan’s second striking addition
Wrexham fans will now hold Wigan as something of a second team heading into this season.
Supporters everywhere want to see Mullin thriving, and nothing would be better than seeing him back in the goals again.
The Latics struggled in League One last season and are now looking for better times as Lowe prepares for a first full season in charge.
Mullin will be relied upon for goals, but he may also be able to form a dangerous strike partnership alongside fellow new signing Christian Saydee.
Saydee has joined Wigan from Portsmouth and will now join Mullin in Lowe’s new-look attack.
Mullin’s starring role in this Wrexham rise will never be forgotten, but it’s now time to wish him all the best as he begins a new chapter at Wigan.
