Phil Parkinson makes January transfer decision on ‘immense’ Wrexham player he really likes

Wrexham’s plans for the upcoming January transfer window are already beginning to take shape.

The Red Dragons spent big over the summer, smashing their transfer record on two occasions in August.

All told, nine new faces were brought to the Racecourse Ground in the most recent window.

And the majority of those additions have proven shrewd buys and allowed Wrexham to climb swiftly up the League One table.

However, injury blows and a lack of form from certain players in recent weeks means the Welsh outfit have now dropped out of the top two.

In turn, more signings are expected in Wales once the 2025 winter window gets underway on January 1st.

Wrexham want to sign a new striker in January after Jack Marriott picked up a long-term injury and Paul Mullin’s form took a nosedive.

While fans are likely focused on potential incomings, however, there could be at least one exit in the coming months.

Phil Parkinson makes Wrexham transfer stance on Aaron James clear

Born in Chester, Aaron James began his playing career with Wrexham’s academy and has so far made six appearances for their senior side.

The 19-year-old most recently started in the club’s 4-2 defeat versus Port Vale in the EFL Trophy last week.

After that match, Phil Parkinson has confirmed that he wants to see James sent out on loan in January after failing to find him a club over the summer, as per Leader Live.

He said: “We have got to give Aaron a lot of credit for his performance against Port Vale. I thought he was immense.

“He is an under-the-radar player. We tried to get him a loan move in the summer but we didn’t quite manage to achieve that for him.

“I just hope there were people watching him against Port Vale because he has got incredible pace and athleticism, and he does what it says on the tin.

“He defends with the heart of a lion and we trust him playing in our first-team. But I am sure someone in January is going to look at these games he has played for us and give him a chance somewhere.”

Another Wrexham star could benefit from transfer

It is easy to see why Parkinson wants to send James out on loan given the competition for places at centre-back.

But another Wrexham defender may also benefit from a temporary exit come the open of the winter window.

Lewis Brunt is currently the fifth-choice centre-back at the Racecourse behind Max Cleworth, Thomas O’Connor, Dan Scarr and Eoghan O’Connell.

And with Brunt also really struggling for regular football, he too may wish to look for a loan in the second half of 2024/25 as right now, he is being given little chance to prove himself after his summer move from Leicester City.
