Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have backed Wrexham heavily but more investment will be needed in the future.
Since the Hollywood pair took the reigns at the Racecourse Ground in 2021, the Red Dragons’ spending has increased massively.
Wrexham have broken their transfer record on numerous occasions in the last four and a bit years, including sending an ‘irresistible’ offer to Ollie Palmer to pry him away from AFC Wimbledon for £300,000.
Ollie Rathbone and Modou Faal then arrived in the 2024 summer transfer window in record deals.
And on January 31st, 2025, Wrexham broke their transfer record for Sam Smith, paying League One rivals seven figures for the striker who has since scored three goals.
While the Welsh outfit’s recruitment has been solid under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, they can’t afford to take their foot off the gas.

Former Wrexham player Glen Little sends transfer advice to Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds
Ahead of Wrexham facing Stockport County on Saturday, they sit third in the League One table, only behind the automatic promotion places via goal difference.
Wycombe Wanders have a tough run of fixtures to round out the season, while the Red Dragons only play two of the top nine teams.
In turn, there’s a very real chance that Phil Parkinson’s side make history and secure a third promotion on the spin.
Should that indeed happen, former Wrexham player Glen Little, as per Leader Live, has suggested Rob and Ryan need to make three or four signings to compete in the Championship and maybe even win yet another promotion.
He said: “It’s always harder when you go up but Wrexham have got the money and that is a big help.
“It would be a struggle if quite a lot of those teams went up to the Championship, like Reading who are challenging for the play-offs but don’t have the investment, but Wrexham have got the money to go again.
“They have been backed in League One and if they can add three or four really good signings if they go up, you never know.
“Ipswich did it and I wouldn’t write anything off. Wrexham could have a real go which would be great to see.”

Wrexham need squad overhaul
No matter what happens at the end of the 2024/25 season, it’s clear that Wrexham’s squad will need an overhaul in the summer.
They have a fairly old team and some players, especially in the striker department, will need to be moved on.
Parkinson currently has seven numbers nines, several of which are not seeing any regular playing time.
And if they want to bring in another centre-forward in the summer, which they probably should, a few of their current options may need to be moved on.
A new left-wing-back could also be required given James McClean is getting on and will be in the final year of his contract come the start of 2025/26.
