Wrexham have seen George Evans go down with an injury and Phil Parkinson looks ready to pounce with a new signing.

Wrexham sit second in the League One table but it isn’t all positive for boss Phil Parkinson right now.

Injuries have started mounting for Wrexham and Parkinson has decided to take action.

Earlier in October, midfielder George Evans picked up an injury in the 1-0 defeat away at Stevenage.

Parkinson indicated that Evans had ‘felt something crack’ and he is now set for an extended absence from first-team action.

Recent signing Josh Adam seemingly isn’t ready for League One action just yet and Wrexham are bringing in another midfielder.

Wrexham close in on Matty James deal

The RobRyanRed podcast report that Wrexham are set to snap up midfielder Matty James on a free transfer.

James has been spotted in Wrexham training gear as he prepares to finalise a move to the STōK Cae Ras.

It’s suggested that James will be signing a deal until January, helping cover for the injury to Evans.

RobRyanRed add that James has received interest from ‘numerous Championship clubs’ but is ready to sign for Wrexham.

The 33-year-old is a free agent having left Bristol City at the end of last season.

A former Manchester United talent, James has racked up the appearances for Leicester City and Bristol City over the year and brings real experience to Wrexham.

Brendan Rodgers on Matty James

James spent nine years on the books at Leicester City and played more than 100 league games for the club.

Injuries kept James out of the Premier League-winning campaign in the 2015-16 season but his contribution at the club has been recognised.

Former Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers heaped praise on James after confirming the decision to release him in 2021.

Speaking on Leicester’s official website, Rodgers – now managing in the Champions League with Celtic – praised James for his contribution to the Leicester story.

Rodgers added that James has enjoyed an ‘outstanding’ career having been schooled at Manchester United and praised him as a ‘very, very talented’ player.

“I’m so pleased for Matty because when I came in, it was obviously so difficult for him in terms of injuries,” Rodgers said. “He’s a player that played a huge part in what is known here as the Great Escape – that team that stayed in the division and allowed the Club to continue to build.

“Matty sees the game from the very highest level. His education at Manchester United as a young player has seen him go on and have an outstanding career. He’s just been unfortunate in my time here, especially early on, where he had those niggly injuries.

“I’m so happy for him that he was able to go out this season. He’s played nearly 40 games in the Championship over the course of the last season and I will miss him like the others because he’s such an honest guy, a good guy, a funny guy and a very, very talented player,” he added.

Fast forward three years and James is now ready to bring that talent to Wrexham.

This looks to be a smart move for Wrexham and whilst it may take time for him to get up to speed in League One, his extensive record in the Championship over the last four years suggests that he will be ready to make an impact at this level.
