Wrexham are out of the Carabao Cup but Phil Parkinson may have had one eye on Sheffield Wednesday’s fortunes against Hull City.
Phil Parkinson took his side to Bramall Lane on Tuesday night, taking on Sheffield United in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
This was always bound to be a tricky encounter for Wrexham as Parkinson made 10 changes to his side.
James McClean was the only player to keep his place from the 3-2 win over Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
Will Boyle gave Wrexham the lead but that’s about as good as it got as Sheffield United racked up four unanswered goals before Sebastian Revan’s late consolation.
Revan caught the eye for Wrexham but there wasn’t much else to shout about ahead of this weekend’s trip to Bolton Wanderers.

Sheffield Wednesday duo feature amid Wrexham links
Wrexham are unlikely to have a new face on board before the journey to the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
You never know though; Wrexham have signed players on two consecutive Fridays, first landing Dan Scarr before snapping up Ollie Rathbone.
Wrexham are in the market for a new striker and will have been watching closely as Sheffield Wednesday beat Hull City on Wednesday night.
Michael Smith is on Wrexham’s radar whilst fellow Wednesday striker Bailey Cadamarteri is wanted too.
Smith came off the bench to help Wednesday thrash Plymouth Argyle on Sunday but Cadamarteri wasn’t involved.
On Wednesday night, Smith started in a 2-1 win over Hull City as the Owls advanced into the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Cadamarteri only came off the bench though, playing 33 minutes of the second half as he attempts to impress boss Danny Rohl.
Wrexham wait on striker chase
This situation doesn’t particularly help Wrexham or suggest that either player is imminently heading to the STōK Cae Ras.
Smith coming off the bench on Sunday and starting on Wednesday just highlights how Rohl still values him and has plans for him in the Wednesday squad.
Perhaps that will change a little once Ike Ugbo is up to speed, but this one looks like a difficult move for Wrexham to pull off.
A loan for Cadamarteri looks a little more realistic given that he didn’t even start in the Carabao Cup, but he surely wouldn’t have played at all if a deal with Wrexham was close.
This all leaves Wrexham waiting for developments and decisions from Wednesday with Phil Parkinson hoping to bring at least one Owls forward to the club this month.
