Wrexham are looking to secure more additions after the capture of Ryan Hardie.

Phil Parkinson knows that his Wrexham squad requires further quality for the challenge of the Championship and has identified two key areas to strengthen.

Wrexham are interested in Ryan Teague from Melbourne Victory in a bid to bolster midfield options amid interest in the likes of Tom Cairney and Lewis Travis in the same position.

Craig Dawson has been offered a contract by Wrexham as Parkinson seeks an experienced central defender but it is a transfer target in another position that could be the Red Dragons’ next capture after what Jurgen Klopp said back in January 2024.

Jurgen Klopp said Wrexham target Owen Beck struggled ‘away from home’

Wrexham are interested in Owen Beck after the left back impressed during a loan spell with Blackburn Rovers last season.

The Liverpool youngster would add some energy to Parkinson’s options on the left flank and former manager Jurgen Klopp once revealed why Wrexham may have an advantage in the race to sign him.

As per The Courier, Klopp discussed Beck’s successful loan spell in the Scottish Premiership with Dundee but claimed that the youngster struggled ‘away from home’.

Klopp stated: “We were always pretty positive about Owen but then he had two really difficult loan spells [with Famalicao in Portugal and Bolton in League One].

“This was a surprise that it didn’t work out because of what we thought about Owen. But that’s how it is, especially with young boys when you send them away from home and stuff like this.

“Plenty of things can happen there and it always needs to fit really well – it must be the right manager, must be the right team, if you have another left-back there and he has experience…there are so many things [that] can make a loan spell not really happening.”

It is unclear whether the Red Dragons are pursuing a permanent or loan move for Beck as of yet but a move to the Racecourse Ground would mean the young defender would still be near to his home in Merseyside.

Owen Beck’s Championship record

At just 22 years of age, Beck would be a different type of signing that Parkinson has targeted so far during the summer window but does have some previous experience in the second tier.

The defender was at the centre of a controversial incident during a feisty Lancashire derby between Blackburn and Preston.

Beck was bitten by Preston’s Milutin Osmajic having been sent off himself for a challenge on Duane Holmes.

Parkinson will be aware that the youngster still has a lot to learn and James McClean would provide the perfect mentor for Beck on that left flank if a deal can be struck.
