Wrexham are in talks with Melbourne Victory over a deal for Ryan Teague but face stiff competition from Championship rivals, Wrexham Insider understands.

Wrexham’s interest in Teague came after the club announced their first summer signing in Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle.

Phil Parkinson is keen to strengthen a number of areas within his Wrexham squad and central midfield is high on his priority list.

Wrexham are interested in Tommy Doyle from Wolves but again are competing against Championship clubs to land the midfielder. Attentions have turned to Teague in what would be the club’s first major overseas signing.

Wrexham face competition in race for Ryan Teague signature

Teague was represented by Jorge Mendes during the initial stages of his career after being spotted by Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent during the FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil back in 2019.

TBR Football’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey has been monitoring Wrexham’s interest in Teague and whilst talks are ongoing, it will be a difficult deal to pull off for the Red Dragons.

Bailey stated: “I’m told Wrexham have had talks about him, far from a done deal and I am also told he has been offered to other Championship clubs. But there is an interest.”

Wrexham want to sign Sunusi Ibrahim from CF Montreal this summer and interest in Teague suggests a potential change in transfer strategy from the club with scouting now moving abroad as they progress through the football pyramid.

Ryan Teague interest could spell bad news for George Dobson

George Dobson is determined to prove himself in the Championship having never had the opportunity to play in the second tier.

Teague is a similar player to Dobson in that they both work hard, tenacious in the tackle and then use the ball efficiently.

Wrexham have cooled interest in Lewis Travis, another player of similar style to Dobson and the Wrexham midfielder must now be fearful of his place in the side next season.

Parkinson will need a competitive squad but Dobson will be hoping that he is given a fair chance to prove himself at Championship level.
