Wrexham could be about to offload striker Jake Bickerstaff on loan following the announcement of Jack Marriott.

A busy deadline day has ensued at Wrexham after watching Jack Marriott and Luke Bolton complete their moves to the club this morning while the Red Dragons could still smash their transfer record by signing Rotherham United midfielder Jamie Lindsay.

In a frantic end to the transfer window, Phil Parkinson has managed to strengthen his squad and the signing of Marriott certainly highlights their ambition.

A former League One Golden Boot winner for Peterborough and the man who silenced Leeds United at Elland Road in the Championship play-off semi-final in 2019, Marriott is an incredible coup.

On paper, the partnership he could form with Paul Mullin is mouth-watering and Parkinson could throw him straight into the team against Salford City on Saturday.

Unfortunately, the arrival of the 29-year-old has pushed striker Jake Bickerstaff further down the pecking order and he could now be on the move before the 11pm deadline.

Accrington Stanley want Jake Bickerstaff

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, the 22-year-old has agreed a loan move to Accrington Stanley as he seeks regular game time.

Bickerstaff led the line superbly at the start of the season when Wrexham were short on strikers, scoring twice in his first four matches.

Since then, the youngster has only played 17 minutes of football in League Two as Parkinson prefers the likes of Mullin, Sam Dalby, Stephen Fletcher and Ollie Palmer instead of him.

Add Marriott into the mix now, and the chances of the promising forward featuring for Wrexham are decreased even further.

Bickerstaff is highly rated by the coaching staff at Wrexham as one of the best raw finishers at the club and brings boundless energy up top.

Such are the options at Parkinson’s disposal, the youngster hasn’t featured as much as he deserves to and a loan could be hugely beneficial for him.

Bickerstaff needs a loan move

Accrington are in 11th position in League Two, just three points behind the final play-off spot occupied by Notts County.

A move to the Wham Stadium could see Bickerstaff showcase his potential as a top striker at this level.

He’s a real handful for defenders to play against and doesn’t give them a moment’s peace. If he can combine that with some ruthless finishing, he could help fire Accrington into the play-offs.

While a deal hasn’t been confirmed just yet, it benefits both parties.

The youngster is desperate for regular minutes and Wrexham want to see their talent develop elsewhere.
