Wrexham have been linked with yet another prolific striker ahead of the January transfer window.

Wrexham have made a strong start to life back in the English Football League.

Following their fairytale promotion from the National League under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the Dragons are now eyeing up a second-successive promotion.

Phil Parkinson currently finds his side in 2nd place of the League Two table after a run of three-straight wins in League Two, with just one defeat in their last 14 league outings now.

Yesterday, reports emerged which potentially hinted at Wrexham being interested in Sheffield Wednesday striker Lee Gregory, but it’s since been revealed that the club are also keen on Jonson Clarke-Harris.

Wrexham back in for Jonson Clarke-Harris

There were numerous reports last summer linking Wrexham with a move for the 29-year-old Clarke-Harris.

The prolific Peterborough United man netted 27 goals in League One last season but has since fallen out of favour; he’s been an unused substitute in the last four, with just four goals to his name in 16 League One outings this season.

He’s out of contract next summer, and London News Online say that Charlton Athletic have made an enquiry about the one-time Jamaican international, with Wrexham among teams in the EFL and abroad keeping tabs on the striker.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson has previously labelled Clarke-Harris, who has 143 career goals to his name, as an ‘outstanding’ player.

A huge potential move for the Dragons

Wrexham remain highly ambitious and January looks set to be another busy moth with Parkinson previously saying that the club are always looking for new players.

And despite having scored 47 goals in their opening 23 games this season, a new striker looks like an emerging priority given the links to Gregory and now Clarke-Harris.

Parkinson has had to rely largely on the goals of midfielder Elliot Lee this season, with Paul Mullin on seven, and the remaining Wrexham strikers either not scoring or picking up injuries.

And so Clarke-Harris would be a huge coup for Wrexham.

He’s a proven goal-scorer in League One; as well as scoring 27 in League One last time round, he netted 31 in Posh’ promotion-winning 2020/21 campaign, then 12 in the Championship the following season.

And given his contract situation and the fact that he’s now barely playing for the club, it sems like he could be available next month, and the project at Wrexham may well tempt the striker into joining the club.

If Wrexham can get this deal over the line, it would be a huge boost to their promotion credentials.
