The January transfer window is now in full swing and Wrexham are expected to spend this month.

Phil Parkinson’s team are firmly entrenched in a League One promotion battling, sitting third in the division going into the next round of fixtures.

Results elsewhere have gone in Wrexham’s favour and they are now only behind second-place Wycombe Wanderers via goal difference.

However, Wrexham are lagging behind their League One rivals in one key area this term – not scoring enough goals.

This sees both Wycombe and Birmingham City boasting much better goal differences at this stage, which may prove crucial come the end of the season given how tight the battle for a top-two finish currently is.

Wrexham should be set to address their goalscoring issues in January, however, with several strikers already linked.

Wrexham expert’s January transfer prediction amid Phil Parkinson demand

Previous reports have claimed that Wrexham want to sign a proven Championship striker with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds ready to spend.

One of the names of interest to the Welsh outfit is believed to be Leeds United forward, Patrick Bamford.

Bamford was linked to Wrexham in December but his transfer fee and wages may prove an issue.

However, speaking on the latest edition of the Rob. Ryan. Red podcast, journalist Rich Fay has now predicted Wrexham to spend big while also stating that the club now needs players with Premier League experience.

He said: “When I see all these names we’re linked with for this window, I really do think we’ll spend big. I do think we called that last summer that we want to buy a striker in January.

“Some fans are not keen on Bamford – I know he’s just a name, just an example – if we attract someone whose played in the Premier League and scored goals in the Premier League, that is a level above anything else we’ve got in the team.

“Look at the Wrexham squad, a lot of them have played at really good level, O’Connell’s played for Celtic and had Champions League experience but a lot of our squad and they might be very good Football League players but with the aspirations we’ve got, we now need players who’ve got that Premier League experience.”

Every striker linked with Wrexham

Bamford is the most high-profile name linked to the club but several more stars have been touted as potential options in the last month or so.

The Wrexham Insider understands Manchester United youngster Ethan Wheatley and Leeds’ Joe Gelhardt are both of interest to the League One side.

Elsewhere, Bristol City forward Harry Cornick is being linked with Wrexham this month, while another Championship centre-forward is also a possible option.

Wrexham want Plymouth Argyle striker Ryan Hardie but along with Cornick, he doesn’t have any Premier League experience and is struggling on the goal front in 2024/25.
