Wrexham are in the market for a new striker during the 2025 January transfer window.

It’s been an excellent 2024/25 for the Red Dragons so far but it has become clear a new number nine, or perhaps two, will be needed at the Racecourse Ground this month.

On that front, Wrexham have been dealt a Joe Gelhardt transfer blow this week, with the Leeds United man now expected to stay in the Championship and join Hull City on loan.

In other news concerning the Welsh side and Leeds, the Red Dragons won’t be signing Patrick Bamford from the Yorkshire outfit either.

With two of the names linked to their club over the winter now seemingly out of the running, fans may be concerned they won’t end up signing a new striker in January.

However, another name has now been tipped to make a move to Wrexham during the winter transfer window.

£8,400-a-week striker eyed by Wrexham

Previously, Plymouth Argyle forward Ryan Hardie was linked to Wrexham but he is lacking goals this season and is said to have a £2m release clause – nearly four times the Red Dragons’ record transfer.

Now though, a League One forward who is actually finding the back of the net this term is said to be of interest to Phil Parkinson’s side.

A report from Football League World this week claims that Wrexham are looking at current Bolton Wanderers striker, Dion Charles.

Charles, who is earning £8,400-a-week at Bolton according to Salary Sport, has admirers in the Championship as well, however.

Derby County are also looking at the 29-year-old, who is under contract with Bolton until 2026.

Dion Charles League One stats compared to Wrexham strikers

Charles joined his current club from Accrington Stanley in August 2022 for a fee of around £320,000.

He has made 149 appearances for Bolton across all competitions and is averaging just over a goal every three games.

In the 2024/25 season, meanwhile, the Preston-born player has found the back of the net seven times and provide three assists in 24 League One matches.

In comparison, Paul Mullin has two goals and no assists in 23 appearances, Steven Fletcher has scored five times and assisted zero in 19 and Ollie Palmer has three goals and two assists in 25 games.

Only Jack Marriott – five goals in 10 games – has a better goal-to-game ratio than Charles this campaign but he’s been sidelined since October.
