Wrexham join Swansea City in race to sign £5m striking sensation after 21-goal season

Wrexham are still chasing more attacking additions this summer and could look to raid a former promotion rival in the final month of the transfer window.

Wrexham have added two new attacking threats this summer, and Phil Parkinson seemingly wants even more.

Ryan Hardie and Josh Windass have joined Wrexham this summer, providing proven goalscoring records in the Championship.

Parkinson isn’t stopping there, though, with Wrexham closing in on signing Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town.

A deal for the Wales international will allegedly cost around £7.5million, marking a new club-record signing for Wrexham if the deal goes through.

Broadhead is a versatile attacker who can play in different roles, and Parkinson may be tempted to splash out on a centre-forward.

Wrexham interested in signing Richard Kone

Wrexham are eyeing Kieffer Moore, with the Sheffield United target man viewed as a potential addition at £4million.

That may be a little lofty for a player on the cusp of turning 33, and Wrexham may have a younger alternative in mind.

The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg reports that Wrexham are interested in signing Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone.

It’s stated that Wrexham are ‘tracking’ Kone for a potential summer move, but there is plenty of rival interest.

Kone is believed to be a ‘strong’ target for Championship rivals Preston North End and Swansea City, while French outfit Toulouse are also keen.

Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise are alongside Wrexham in watching Kone’s situation, potentially ready to strike later in the window.

Kone will allegedly cost around £5million this summer, meaning he would almost certainly cost more than Moore in terms of a transfer fee, if not in wages.

Kone has enjoyed a remarkable rise to prominence, having played Essex Senior League football for Athletic Newham as recently as 2023.

Wycombe took a chance on Kone in January 2024, and the 22-year-old hasn’t looked back since.

Kone hit 21 goals in 52 games last season, as Wycombe offered major competition for Wrexham in the promotion race.

The Ivorian hitman is out of contract in 2026, and Wycombe may be tempted to cash in before he leaves for nothing next year.

Preston North End bid for Richard Kone rejected

Steinberg mentioned PNE’s interest, and that materialised with a £3million bid for Kone’s signature.

BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella reports that North End’s bid has already been rejected, with the Chairboys holding out for a higher fee.

That would have been a club-record transfer for PNE, with their current record standing at just over £2million for striker Milutin Osmajic.

North End recently signed Michael Smith amid links to Wrexham, but are still seeking more attacking quality.

The chances of North End going up to £5million seem pretty slim, and that may just tempt Wrexham into making a move to win the race.

Parkinson may need to decide whether to go with the experience of Moore or the potential of Kone, though we can’t completely rule out both strikers arriving, given the way Wrexham are splashing the cash right now.
