Wrexham have set a new club-record transfer twice this summer – and Phil Parkinson is now about to shatter it once again.
There is rarely a dull moment at Wrexham these days, but the last couple of weeks have been a truly crazy time to write about this club.
Wrexham snapped up Liberato Cacace on July 18, securing a club-record deal for the New Zealand international.
By July 24, Wrexham had signed Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest and set a new club record in the process, with George Thomason and Josh Windass arriving in between.
Those four signings have given Wrexham an enormous boost, while showing that Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds really mean business this summer.
The dust is only just about settling on O’Brien’s move, and Wrexham are now ready to absolutely shatter that transfer record once again.

Wrexham close to Nathan Broadhead deal
Much of the focus in recent days has been on a striker, with Wrexham chasing Sheffield United’s Kieffer Moore in a potential £4million move.
It turns out that Wrexham have been moving for another Welsh international forward, with Ipswich Town’s Nathan Broadhead becoming a key target.
Reports on Tuesday evening suggested that Wrexham had launched an approach to sign Broadhead in a potential £7million swoop.
Broadhead missed Ipswich’s friendly with Charlton on Tuesday night, sparking excitement that a move to Wrexham was in the pipeline.
That is certainly the case, with the East Anglian Daily Times reporting that Wrexham are now closing in on signing Broadhead.
It’s stated that the deal will be worth around £7.5million, with an agreement ‘thrashed out’ between Wrexham and Ipswich on Tuesday.
Broadhead’s omission against Charlton certainly makes sense now, with the 27-year-old now on the verge of a move to the STōK Cae Ras.
Ipswich paid £1.5million to sign Broadhead in 2023, and are now set to rake in £6million of profit with this move to Wrexham, before any sell-on clause to Everton.
Nathan Broadhead in focus
This will be an emotional move for Broadhead, who hails from Bangor and spent time in the Wrexham youth ranks before leaving at the age of 10.
Everton pounced to sign Broadhead way back in 2008, and he rose up through the ranks at Goodison Park to eventually make two first-team appearances.
First-team chances were in short supply, and Broadhead went on loan three times in order to gain experience.
A 2019-20 switch to Burton Albion brought just three goals in 22 games, but Broadhead then excelled for Sunderland.
13 goals in 27 outings saw Broadhead shine for the Black Cats, and he then moved on loan to Wigan Athletic in 2022.
Broadhead scored five goals in 22 Championship games for the Latics, sparking Ipswich’s investment.
The Tractor Boys lured Broadhead to League One in a £1.5million move, and he scored eight times in 21 games to help Kieran McKenna seal promotion.
Broadhead continued to shine in the Championship, notching 13 goals in 38 games to secure a second straight promotion.
An injury delayed Broadhead’s impact in the Premier League, but he still managed two goals in 18 league games last season.
Broadhead is also a Welsh international, notching two goals in 14 caps.
An attacker who can play up front, Broadhead has predominantly played as a left-sided winger but has also featured as a number 10 or as a right-sided winger.
Broadhead’s imminent arrival leaves us to believe that Parkinson could change Wrexham’s formation this season, switching from a 3-5-2 to a 3-4-2-1 with Broadhead and Windass operating off a striker in the final third.
That remains to be seen, but with Wrexham stumping up enormous cash for Broadhead, you can be sure that Parkinson has a big role in mind for him.
