Wrexham are in the market for a new defender and could look to make a signing from Welsh rivals Cardiff City.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has signed eight players this summer after clinching promotion from League One.

One new defender has arrived as part of that recruitment, with Conor Coady joining Wrexham from Leicester City earlier in August.

Parkinson remains interested in other defenders, though, with Wrexham eyeing Jack Robinson and Chris Mepham.

A deal for Bournemouth’s Mepham is considered to be ‘very expensive’, but a move to sign the Welsh international is still possible.

Wrexham interested in Cardiff City’s Calum Chambers

The Wrexham Insider’s chief transfer expert, Graeme Bailey, has now told us that Wrexham are interested in signing Calum Chambers from Cardiff City.

Defender Chambers is understood to be interested in a move back to the Championship following Cardiff’s relegation to League One.

A number of Championship sides have been linked, and it is believed Sheffield United are one of those.

Chambers is a player who appeals to Phil Parkinson, though, given his experience and his ability to play in a number of roles, including in a back three.

“Calum Chambers is an outstanding player at Championship level, and you can see why someone like Phil Parkinson would be keen,” said Bailey.

“Chambers is very much one to watch in the final two weeks of the window,” he added.

Chambers emerged in the Southampton ranks and earned a move to Arsenal after 25 first-team outings for the Saints.

The 30-year-old became an England international in 2014, but managed just 74 Premier League appearances for the Gunners.

After loan spells with Middlesbrough and Fulham, Chambers joined Aston Villa in 2022 and then Cardiff in 2024.

Cardiff confirmed Chambers as their new captain earlier this month, and he has started their last two games against Port Vale and Swindon Town.

Chambers still has two years left on his Cardiff contract, but could yet receive offers to leave the Bluebirds this summer.
