Despite making a string of new signings already this summer, it seems Wrexham are not finished in the market just yet, with a new centre-half clearly at the top of the wishlist for Phil Parkinson.
Wrexham have bolstered their attacking options significantly in the past few weeks with the likes of Ryan Hardie, Josh Windass and more recently, Kieffer Moore arriving at the Racecourse Ground.
Despite Conor Coady joining the Red Dragons and bringing experience to the backline, transfer links with more defenders have surfaced over the last week.
Reports recently suggested Jack Robinson is a target for Phil Parkinson, and The Wrexham Insider now has more information on that particular transfer link, with word of a more ambitious alternative also being in the pipeline.

Chris Mepham could be chosen over Jack Robinson
Thanks to information from our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, we are told that Wrexham do indeed like Jack Robinson, and it would be unwise to “rule out” a move for the Sheffield United man.
However, we understand that another player to keep an eye on in the final weeks of the transfer window is Bournemouth’s Chris Mepham, who is also on Wrexham’s radar.
Bailey said: “A deal for Mepham would be very expensive and tough to do, but it’s not impossible”.
Mepham was on loan at Sunderland last season and played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League before returning to Bournemouth.
The Welsh defender was handed a new contract by the Cherries, but it is thought he would be available for a transfer if a fee can be agreed.

Comparing statistics for Chris Mepham and Jack Robinson
Both of these defenders were firmly involved in the Championship promotion hunt in 2024/25, which means they’d both bring a great level of experience and winning mentality to Wrexham.
If we take a closer look at both players from last season, it would seem Mepham comes out on top statistically. And, of course, he is younger, too.
Mepham played 38 times for Sunderland racking up 3,273 minutes, and even managed to register one goal along the way. Robinson featured 35 times for the Blades with 2,875 minutes under his belt.
The two players were fairly similar in terms of passing stats, with Mepham slightly edging it with an 86.7% success rate compared to the 82.5% from Robinson.
| Statistics | Jack Robinson | Chris Mepham |
| Appearances | 35 | 38 |
| Minutes | 2,875 | 3,273 |
| Pass success | 82.5% | 86.7% |
| Tackle success | 79.2% | 64.0% |
| Tackles made per 90 | 1.23 | 1.43 |
| Blocks per 90 | 0.73 | 1.88 |
| Clearances per 90 | 5.41 | 4.35 |
Defensively, Robinson managed 1.23 tackles per 90 minutes with a 79.2% success rate. Mepham, meanwhile, registered 1.43 tackles per 90 but actually had a lower success rate at 64% across the season.
When it comes to the more granular details, Robinson clocked 0.73 blocks and 5.41 clearances per 90 minutes, while Mepham registered a massive 1.88 blocks per 90 and 4.35 clearances.
