Wrexham now interested in signing ‘great’ £2m striker Sam Allardyce once called a pure ‘goalscorer’

Wrexham are now preparing for a 2025/26 campaign in the Championship.

The Red Dragons became the first club in the history of English football to achieve three consecutive promotions when sealing second place in League One last month, with Wrexham reaching new heights under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Now, the Welsh outfit will need to prepare for trips to venues such as the King Power Stadium, the Hawthorns and Ewood Park, ahead of battles against some truly historic English clubs in Leicester, West Brom and Blackburn, to name just a few.

Smart recruitment will be key, and Wrexham are now looking at a striker Sam Allardyce adores in Callum Robinson.

It was Darren Witcoop who claimed that Wrexham are keen to sign Robinson this summer after Cardiff were relegated to League One.

If the Red Dragons can strike an agreement for the man who the Bluebirds paid £1.5m to sign from West Brom back in September 2022, the deal would presumably come with the approval of Allardyce.

The 70-year-old is a big fan of Robinson, who he worked with at West Brom during the 2020/21 campaign.

After the Republic of Ireland international scored two goals in a 5-2 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Allardyce hailed the Wrexham target, telling the official West Brom site: “I’ve got to give Callum Robinson a lot of praise. He’s had a long wait to get in the side.

“He looked a little short of confidence when I came here. He was having a run where he wasn’t getting chances and wasn’t scoring goals. All of a sudden when he’s got the opportunity he has taken it.

“He took his opportunity at Chelsea by scoring those great goals and then he also took another opportunity against Southampton… we’ve found a goalscorer in him.

“Callum played a massive part in both of our recent wins and I’m really pleased for him. He’s been patient. He’s kept himself fit enough to go out and impress when he’s had an opportunity.”

How has Callum Robinson fared in the Championship?

Wrexham – who also want to sign Harry Darling from Swansea – would be getting a highly experienced Championship player if a deal for Robinson materialises.

The Northampton-born striker has amassed 272 Championship appearances throughout his career, scoring 61 goals and providing 36 assists, so the striker could prove invaluable for Phil Parkinson should he end up swapping Cardiff for Wrexham this summer.
