Wrexham appear to be in the market for a new centre back this summer with a couple of targets now emerging.

Wrexham’s League One season ended last weekend as Phil Parkinson’s side beat Lincoln City 2-0 away from home.

The attention now turns towards the summer transfer window and Wrexham’s preparations for life in the Championship.

Attackers appear to be a priority, with Wrexham eyeing up a move for Callum Robinson following Cardiff City’s relegation.

Ryan Hardie remains on the Wrexham radar, and one of his Plymouth Argyle teammates has been linked with a move to the STōK Cae Ras.

Ukrainian international Maksym Talovierov has become a Wrexham target, with Parkinson seemingly seeking centre back additions.

Swansea City stance on Harry Darling future

Reports this weekend suggest that Wrexham have joined the race for Harry Darling as his Swansea City contract runs down.

Darling is also wanted by Birmingham City, with Wrexham allegedly willing to match the Blues’ offer in terms of finances.

The 25-year-old has proven himself to be a quality Championship defender since joining the Swans from Milton Keynes Dons in 2022.

Now coming to the end of his contract at Swansea, Darling could become a bargain signing for Wrexham.

However, Swansea have not given up hope of keeping Darling and have made a ‘strong offer’ to keep him at the club.

Speaking to Wales Online earlier this month, Swansea’s director of football Richard Montague admitted that an offer is on the table for Darling to stay.

Montague accepts Darling may want to explore other options and consider what is best for his family, but Swansea are working hard to keep him.

“We’ve made another offer to Harry,” said Montague. “We believe it’s a strong offer. Harry’s in a privileged position where there’s an opportunity now to have a look around and really decide what’s best for him and his family.

“But we believe we’ve put our best foot forward. Alan and I had him in the office for about an hour earlier trying to persuade him as to why Swansea is the right place for him to continue his career. We really believe it is. We’re hopeful of a positive outcome, but we recognise there are a lot of clubs that can offer a lot of things, and Harry needs to do what’s right for him and his family. But we’re doing everything we can to make it a positive outcome for us,” he added.

Harry Darling has earned huge praise at Swansea City

We would love to see Darling join Wrexham and believe he would be a superb addition next to Max Cleworth in Parkinson’s three-man back line.

Eoghan O’Connell and Dan Scarr impressed in League One, but Darling is proven in the Championship and still has the potential to kick on again.

Former Swans boss Luke Williams, who became a major Wrexham rival with Notts County, previously praised Darling as an ‘excellent’ player on Swansea’s official website.

Williams not only praised Darling for the way he defends in the box – something which Parkinson will love – but also his ability on the ball.

“Harry was outstanding, and it is impossible to question his commitment to the football club because that an heroic performance from him,” said Williams.

“He is fantastic at defending the goal, competing for everything with the opposition. But he also had plenty of brilliant actions in helping us to build-up to try and score. He was brilliant, he’s an excellent player,” he added.

This kind of signing on a free transfer would be a real statement for Wrexham and a signal of intent in terms of overtaking Swansea as the top Welsh club around.
