Wrexham’s club-record transfer for a striker was voided by the EFL on Transfer Deadline Day, meaning the deal failed to materialise.
Wrexham were in the market for a striker on Transfer Deadline Day following Paul Mullin‘s recent absences and sluggish start to the new season.
The Red Dragons had confirmed terms with Harrogate Town striker Luke Armstrong ahead of the deadline, with paperwork submitted for his signing. However, the deal fell through at the eleventh hour.

Wrexham’s club-record transfer was voided by EFL on deadline day
Wrexham had agreed a club-record fee for Armstrong, but unfortunately missed the 23:00 BST cut-off point on Friday as the transfer window closed.
According to the Daily Mail, the Red Dragons had a £500,000 bid accepted by their League Two rivals for the 27-year-old.
Harrogate themselves had even announced that the centre-forward had joined Phil Parkinson’s side on a permanent deal.
However, the required documentation and clearance requests could not be completed in time and Armstrong’s registration was rejected.
The club were ‘disappointed it could not happen now’
“The club would like to thank the player for choosing to join Wrexham earlier in the day and are disappointed that this cannot now happen,” the club said in a statement.
Armstrong started his career off at Birmingham City and has also played for the likes of Salford and Accrington.
He had 16 goals for Harrogate last season and has 31 in 106 for the club overall. He has scored once in five games in all competitions this season and had gone on strike to force a move through to The Racecourse.

The Reds did manage to bring two players in
Wrexham secured a much-needed 1-0 win against Tranmere over the weekend, and thankfully did manage to bring in two players on deadline day.
Following Ben Foster’s retirement then brought in Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on loan, while George Evans has joined from Millwall on a two-year contract.
