Wrexham’s most valuable player now revealed and it will surprise Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds

Wrexham have some quality players on their books right now but one player has potential to net Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds a tidy sum with a future sale.

As Wrexham continue to climb up the EFL, the quality of their players is increasing, with some even attracting interest from elsewhere in the UK.

Ryan Barnett has attracted interest from Rangers recently and caught the eye of Championship duo Preston North End and Stoke City last month.

Few will argue against Barnett being Wrexham’s Player of the Season so far, providing the bulk of their attacking threat despite being deployed at right-wing-back.

The 25-year-old has improved a great deal in the 2024/25 campaign and, on paper, could easily be the Red Dragons’ most valuable player.

Record signings Ollie Rathbone and Modou Faal should also, in theory, be among their most valuable assets given the £500,000 and £590,000 fees paid out for them.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds told who is Wrexham’s most valuable player

However, it is not any of Wrexham’s most expensive signings or their most in-form players who are actually named as their most valuable player.

Instead, likely to the surprise of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, that accolade has been awarded to former Aston Villa full-back, Sebastian Revan.

That is according to CIES Football Observatory, who produce reports based on statistics involving players.

CIES have released a list of the most valuable players at every club across more than 65 leagues worldwide.

And they have named Revan, not Barnett or Faal, as Wrexham’s most valuable player with an estimated value of €2.5m-3.2m (around £2m-2.6m).

Given his age, it is understandable that Revan has a high potential value but it is still pretty surprising to see him rated higher than Barnett.

How much did Wrexham pay for Sebastian Revan

The exact figure paid to pry Revan away from Aston Villa is not known but estimated fees put the transfer at around £350,000.

This means, in theory, Wrexham could already sell the defender for around six times more than what they paid for him over the summer.

Whether or not Revan is able to keep that transfer value is likely to depend on how much game time he sees in the rest of 2024/25, however.

The 21-year-old has not started a league game since the beginning of October and with Wrexham now out of all three cup competitions, it is hard to see where he will get a chance to prove himself going forward due to the excellent form of James McClean and the aforementioned Barnett.
