Birmingham City’s manager reveals where the ‘important’ battle with Wrexham lies

Birmingham are set to travel to Wales this Friday night to square off against Wrexham in the Championship.

A rivalry between the pair was formed last season as they squared off in League One, with the clubs owned by American celebrities, Wrexham by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, while Birmingham are partly under the stewardship of Tom Brady.

This will see many tuning in for the clash to see who will come out on top of the ‘Hollywood Derby’, with the Red Dragons looking to secure their first Championship home win of the season and Wrexham’s first league win against Birmingham in 46 years.

However, the Blues manager has been speaking about how he will look to deny the Welsh side achieving this as he and his team travel to the Racecourse Ground.

The result is all that matters to Birmingham City boss Chris Davies

Birmingham City are on a disappointing run in the Championship away from home at the minute, as they have lost their last three fixtures, all without registering a goal.

This is a cause for concern for the Blues boss, and he is completely focused on the task at hand this Friday night, despite the increased coverage for this clash, due to their opponents being Wrexham.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I’m someone who is very, very detached from the kind of hullabaloo that goes on around those games.

“I don’t listen to anything externally; I’ve got no interest in the hype. All I see is the opposition, which we are trying to beat. So, that is for everyone else.

“I know there is a lot of talk around us playing Wrexham. What was important for me was on the pitch last season; we finished first, they finished second, they were a really good League One team, and we had some good games against them, beating them at home and drew with them away.

“We know they are a really challenging prospect, especially at home. I know because I’ve been there, what type of game we are in for, but we have a lot of belief that if we play our game as well as we can, then we can get the result we want.”

Chris Davies does not care which celebrities may watch Wrexham and Birmingham City

The Blues and the Red Dragons have been able to lure some major names to fixtures since American celebrities became owners at the club.

David Beckham was in attendance at St Andrew’s last season for a fixture, while the Racecourse Ground has welcomed the likes of the Always Sunny gang, Will Ferrell and Hugh Jackman.

Co-owner of Birmingham, Tom Brady, will not be at Wrexham for the clash, and Chris Davies has made his opinion clear on what he thinks of who could be watching on from the stands.

He said: “Not of interest to me who is in the stadium.”
