Five things learned as Wrexham draw vs Derby County, Issa Kabore verdict and Dragons have a big problem

Wrexham let slip the lead on Saturday as they drew 1-1 against Derby County in the Championship.

Wrexham’s search for their first home league win of the season goes on after their 1-1 draw against Derby County on Saturday afternoon.

Lewis O’Brien headed the Dragons into the lead in the second half, but a ranged effort from Ben Brereton Diaz saw the Rams eventually leave the Racecourse with a point.

The draw moves Wrexham up into 12th place of the Championship table.

Here are five things we learned about Phil Parkinson’s side after their game against Derby County…

Issa Kabore is going to be key for Wrexham

In the summer, Wrexham signed 13 new players, with Issa Kabore joining on loan from Man City on deadline.

And being a loan signing, Kabore might have gone under the radar a bit when the summer window was done and dusted. But so far, he’s been class for the Dragons.

Parkinson has hailed Kabore’s Wrexham form and he was on fire again on Saturday, bombing up and down the right flank and putting in some great crosses.

George Dobson is getting better every week

Given the amount of midfield signings at Wrexham this summer, few may have expected George Dobson to have lost his spot in the XI by now.

But against Derby County, he showed exactly why he’s still in the XI: he didn’t do anything overly-spectacular but he didn’t put a foot wrong either, sweeping up really well and moving the ball from side to side very neatly.

Wrexham can be a bit too one dimensional

Parkinson’s style of play at Wrexham has certainly been criticised over the last few years, and at times it’s been justified.

Against Derby County, he seemed to lack ideas of how to break down what was a stubborn Rams defence with Kabore’s crosses into the box clearly the one and only idea.

But when Kabore couldn’t get going, Wrexham simply looked lost.

Wrexham’s home form could quickly become a big problem

Often times for teams in the Championship, especially those who have just been promoted, home form is the backbone of their season.

But the fact that the Dragons are winless at home in the Championship this season is a major cause for concern and Parkinson must be wondering when that first home win will come.

The longer we go without one, the more of a kind of taboo it’ll become, and it could easily snowball into a huge psychological barrier for the players.

Lewis O’Brien can be a key source of goals

So far this season, the likes of Josh Windass and Kieffer Moore have been banging in the goals. But O’Brien’s goal against Derby takes his tally to three in seven Championship games, with an assist to his name as well.

Already he’s on track for his best scoring season ever (four league goals in the 2018/19 season at Bradford City) and it comes after O’Brien admitted he wants to add more goals to his game.
