Wrexham suffered a third Championship defeat of the season as Queens Park Rangers won 3-1 at the STōK Cae Ras on Saturday afternoon.

Wrexham looked to have turned a corner by beating Millwall before the international break, but Phil Parkinson’s side suffered defeat on Saturday.

Parkinson saw his side go 2-0 down before Kieffer Moore inspired some hope by finding the net once again.

Wrexham were caught on the break, though, as Rumarn Burrell outpaced Conor Coady before lifting the ball over Arthur Okonkwo and into the net.

Queens Park Rangers boss on Wrexham

Perhaps the international break disrupted Wrexham’s momentum, but this was a very disappointing afternoon.

Wrexham were vulnerable defensively, and the manner of the second goal will seriously concern Parkinson, as his back line was picked apart.

QPR boss Julien Stephan spoke to the R’s official YouTube channel and commented on Wrexham’s style of play.

Stephan highlighted that Wrexham are very dangerous from crosses, especially with summer signing Kieffer Moore on the pitch.

Moore scored Wrexham’s goal from a set piece, again showing off his considerable aerial ability inside the penalty area.

Stephan felt that his side actually ‘struggled a little bit’ with Wrexham’s approach, despite leaving the STōK Cae Ras with three points.

“I’m a little bit disappointed with the beginning of the second half, especially the first 20 minutes, I think we struggled to keep the ball and we stayed too low on the pitch,” said Stephan.

“As we know, they are able to do a lot of crosses and they have a target man in the box, with Kieffer Moore, and a lot of players able to finish after the crosses, so we struggled a little bit at these moments,” he added.

Kieffer Moore is the shining light of Wrexham’s summer business

Wrexham racked up 13 summer signings, and many of them are still settling into life at the STōK Cae Ras.

Some are even on the sidelines with injury, as the likes of George Thomason, Josh Windass and Liberato Cacace are all missing.

Moore has been the shining light, though, racking up four goals in just five Championship outings for Wrexham.

The 33-year-old is about as proven as they come in the Championship, especially if you’re looking for a target man – as Parkinson was this summer.

Moore’s time at Sheffield United didn’t quite go to plan, but Wrexham are getting the best out of him, and Stephan will not be the only manager worried about facing the Welshman and his aerial prowess.
