It’s a big week for the Red Dragons, with an EFL Trophy semi-final coming up, and we’ve got all the details you need to watch Wrexham vs Peterborough, plus a look at the latest team news and head-to-head record, too.

Wrexham host Peterborough at the Racecourse Ground on Wednesday night, with both teams looking to book a place at Wembley for the final against Birmingham City on March 16th.

While the EFL Trophy was a distraction for Wrexham at first, the competition now presents Phil Parkinson’s side with a brilliant chance to win some silverware, assuming the League One title is already out of sight.

The Red Dragons will still have one eye on automatic promotion, but there’s no doubting Parkinson and his men will be taking this game very seriously indeed.

Wrexham team news ahead of EFL Trophy semi-final

We’ve already put together our early Wrexham predicted XI for the Peterborough game, with a couple of changes expected for Parkinson.

One big concern for Wrexham is the fact that Andy Cannon is out with a knee injury, which Parkinson described as a ‘bad’ one.

Both Elliot Lee and Paul Mullin have been touch-and-go of late, though the latter did make the bench for the win over Mansfield Town on Sunday. We expect Mullin to be involved in some capacity on Wednesday, but this game may still be too soon for Lee.

Callum Burton, Luke Bolton, and Will Boyle will all miss the game, with long-term issues still keeping the trio out of action.

Wrexham vs Peterborough head-to-head record

Over the course of history, Wrexham and Peterborough have met 64 times, and the Posh actually have the upper hand with 26 wins to 20 for the Red Dragons. There have also been 18 draws between the two teams.

Wrexham have won both games this season in League One, though, and haven’t conceded a goal against a struggling Peterborough side, winning 2-0 away and 1-0 at home.

However, Peterborough were unbeaten in ten against Wrexham before this season, with four wins and six draws stretching back to 2004.

You have to go back to 2003 for Wrexham’s last win over Peterborough prior to this season, with a 2-0 win at the Racecourse Ground in December. The Red Dragons also won 3-2 away at Peterborough in February 2002.

So, historically, Peterborough have the advantage in this fixture, but Wrexham have definitely got Posh’s number this season.

Wrexham vs Peterborough score prediction

With the home crowd behind them and the promise of a trip to Wembley, we believe Wrexham will have enough to get over the line and make it to the final in this one.

Parkinson will likely to put out a strong team, and the players will be well up for it after the win over Mansfield Town at the weekend. We’ll go for a 3-1 Wrexham win here, with the Red Dragons putting on a show for their fans.
