Wrexham striker Jack Marriott was full of praise for his teammate after the opening day win vs Wycombe Wanderers.
Wrexham managed to get off to the perfect start in the 2024/25 League One season as they saw off Wycombe Wanderers in a hotly-contested 3-2 victory, with Jack Marriott notably getting a spectacular goal to open his account for the season.
It was just Marriott’s second league goal for the Reds since he joined in January, and his abilities to score the volley haven’t gone unnoticed from those at the club, with Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney expressing his excitement and belief in the former Derby County striker.
Wrexham fan-favourite Paul Mullin was also full of admiration for his teammates’ strike, posting a message to Marriott on social media following his goal.
Whilst Marriott’s efforts were rewarded with praise, the Wrexham striker also recognised a ‘top-class’ performance by one of his teammates that deserved plenty of admiration.

Wrexham striker Jack Marriott praises Steven Fletcher after Wycombe victory
Marriott was joined on the scoresheet by both Max Cleworth and fellow striker Steven Fletcher, with the former Scottish international scoring the winning goal to guide Wrexham towards a win on the opening day of the season.
Speaking to talkSPORT at 8:54 am on Monday, Marriott said: “He does that [score] every day in training.
“You know what you are going to get from Fletch, whether it’s starting the game or coming on for 20, 30 minutes. You know what you are going to get from him. He is always top class.”
It was Fletcher’s ninth goals for Wrexham since he joined prior to the 2023/24 League Two season, in which he played a massive part in the Reds’ promotion.

Wrexham’s attacking options are amongst the best in League One
Without adding a striker to their side this summer, Wrexham’s striker depth remains to be one of the best in League One, as the Reds showed a clear goal scoring ability in front of goal against Wycombe Wanderers, even with the absence of Paul Mullin.
Phil Parkinson is even looking to add to the options consisting of Mullin, Fletcher and Marriott, not to mention talisman Ollie Palmer as a sufficient option as well.
Sheffield Wednesday duo Bailey Cadamarteri and Michael Smith have both been linked with a move to the Reds, with the latter having recent proven striker ability at League One and an assurance to score at this level, something that could easily take Wrexham up to having the best frontline in the division.
The options that Parkinson has available could prove to be a double-edged sword, as there won’t be many more managers with such a selection headache as the Wrexham boss, however the Reds always have sufficient strikers to turn to and that could be the difference between them potentially looking at an incredible third successive promotion.
