Wrexham picked up yet another home win on Sunday afternoon, beating Wigan Athletic 2-1 at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham fans were gifted one more win before the curtain came down on 2024.

Wigan Athletic were the visitors on Sunday afternoon, just days after Wrexham beat Blackpool 2-1 at home.

Paul Mullin’s stunning goal stole the show despite Steven Fletcher’s winner, but Fletcher grabbed the headlines against Wigan.

Fletcher pounced late on to secure another 2-1 victory, converting James McClean’s cross in injury time.

Phil Parkinson’s home record at Wrexham is exceptional and ending 2024 with yet another home win just felt right for Wrexham.

Mia Roberts hails Lewis Brunt

Wrexham can now head into 2025 on a real high having not only grabbed another win, but also moved back up to second place.

Parkinson and Wrexham took full advantage of Wycombe Wanderers dropping points at Charlton Athletic and now sit in an automatic promotion spot heading into the New Year.

Parkinson has hailed Steven Fletcher for his performance but a number of other players turned up with big displays.

Defender Lewis Brunt was impressive once again as he continues to nail down a key role in Wrehxam’s back line.

Wrexham beat Mansfield Town to Brunt’s signature over the summer whilst Peterborough United couldn’t match Wrexham’s financial offer to Brunt.

Brunt had to be patient after his move from Leicester City though, as he not only struggled for starts but sometimes wasn’t even on the bench.

Now thriving in the Wrexham defence, Brunt has been praised by Mia Roberts as she spoke on Wrexham Matchday Live.

The former Wrexham Women’s star turned co-commentator suggested that Brunt is just getting better and better.

Roberts feels that Wrexham pulled off a ‘great coup’ to sign Brunt ahead of Mansfield, praising him for being brave on the ball and driving forward in possession.

“I think he’s just got so much to his game,” said Roberts.

“Week-by-week, it’s just looking like a better signing. Obviously, in the summer, Mansfield were desperate to get him and what a great coup that was to evade them.

“He has so many strengths and one of the biggest ones I love is when he goes on those little driving runs.

“He’s just getting better and better, he looks so comfortable on the ball and I think that’s what the game was calling out for from a Wrexham point of view, it needed people to be a bit more brave on the ball and he did that, he opened up the space, made a few opportunities from those runs and his leap as well, I just think he gets up so well and, like Max, he’s got age on his side.

“He’s a very young player and what a great asset for us to have,” she added.

Most teams would love a Lewis Brunt

Brunt appeared to arrive as competition for Max Cleworth on the right side of defence but has now found himself a home on the left side.

Despite being right-footed, Brunt looks right at home in Wrexham’s defence and appears to have moved well clear of Tom O’Connor in the pecking order.

You look at Brunt’s attribute and truly feel that many other clubs would love to have a defender like him.

Brunt is quick, comfortable on the ball, can play in any spot across the back line, possesses decent physicality and has bags of potential at 24.

Wrexham fended off major competition for Brunt and that transfer push now looks to be an absolute masterstroke.
