Wrexham dropped points for the second weekend in a row after only managing a 1-1 draw away at Bristol Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

Wrexham were looking to hit back after late frustration against Cambridge United.

Phil Parkinson’s side were closing in on a narrow victory before a late sucker punch handed Cambridge a share of the spoils.

It was a similar story against Bristol Rovers too as Wrexham took the lead through Elliot Lee.

Matty James produced a brilliant pass for Lee to score but Wrexham couldn’t find the crucial second goal to kill it off.

That came back to haunt Wrexham as Promise Omochere headed home a late equaliser for Bristol Rovers, handing them a 1-1 draw.

Phil Parkinson hails Wrexham ace

Taking just two points from games against Cambridge United and Bristol Rovers will be a major frustration for Wrexham.

Bristol Rovers sacked manager Matt Taylor ahead of Saturday’s game and Wrexham will have sensed a real opportunity to strike.

Wrexham just didn’t kill the game off and Parkinson must view this as a missed chance on the road.

Parkinson has though moved to praise his goalkeeper with Mark Howard catching his eye.

Howard is deputising in goal right now with Arthur Okonkwo injured and Callum Burton potentially out for the season.

The veteran stopper has equipped himself well so far and Parkinson has moved to praise Howard for his performance against Bristol Rovers.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Parkinson hailed Howard as ‘brilliant’, suggesting that his kicking was impressive against Bristol Rovers whilst bringing a calming influence at the back.

“Mark’s been brilliant, his kicking today [against Bristol Rovers] and his all-round calmness was superb,” said Parkinson.

Mark Howard surely back to the bench soon

There was little Howard could do with the Bristol Rovers leveller with Ryan Barnett ultimately at fault with some poor defending.

Howard has fared well in this run in the team and certainly hasn’t let Wrexham down in Okonkwo’s absence.

The 38-year-old may be back on the Wrexham bench soon though with Okonkwo nearing a return.

Parkinson has admitted that Okonkwo has received ‘really positive feedback’ after recovering from a broken wrist.

Okonkwo will almost certainly go straight back into the starting lineup whenever he is given the go-ahead to play, but Parkinson knows he can call upon Howard whenever needed after this run in the team.
