What Wrexham fans did for Elliot Lee during Reading fixture is so heartwarming

Elliot Lee was given a rare start as Wrexham clashed with Reading in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Wrexham fans faced disruption ahead of the fixture due to travel delays.

But the Red Dragons faithful who attended the game had a lot of love for Elliot Lee.

In the summer of 2025, it was reported that Lee could leave Wrexham despite previously being a key player.

That did not happen, of course, and while he’s no longer a regular starter, he still has a special place in fans’ hearts.

Wrexham fans show love for Elliot Lee during Reading win

Lee’s Wrexham place has been questioned by experts in the last week or so.

He finished as the club’s top goalscorer in all competitions during their League One season with nine.

However, the former Luton Town man is yet to make an appearance in the Championship.

Phil Parkinson started Lee alongside new signing Nathan Broadhead on Tuesday, playing just behind Sam Smith.

Broadhead had been praised by Wrexham fans after he scored a brace to open his account following a £7.5m move from Ipswich Town.

And while Lee did not score in the 2-0 win over Reading, supporters who were at the Racecourse Ground still showed how much they appreciate the three-time promotion winner.

In the second half, fans could be heard serenading the 30-year-old with chants and songs.

He may no longer be a regular feature in North Wales, and his long-term future seems uncertain, but supporters haven’t forgotten how crucial the attacking midfielder has been to their rise up the EFL.

Will Nathan Broadhead or Elliot Lee start for Wrexham vs Derby County

The win over Reading has given Parkinson something of a selection dilemma going into the weekend.

Josh Windass scored twice when he returned to the side versus Norwich City in the club’s last Championship fixture.

But Broadhead may well have done enough to earn a start this weekend, having matched Windass with a brace of his own.

Lewis O’Brien was used in a more advanced role against Norwich, but he too has been excellent this season.

It’s a welcome problem to have for Parkinson, who has now earned back-to-back wins for the second time this season.
