Wrexham were victorious against Burton Albion on Saturday in difficult weather conditions, but not all was perfect for the Red Dragons.
Wrexham’s 1-0 win over Burton saw them go level on points with League One leaders Wycombe Wanderers, as Phil Parkinson’s men show no signs of faltering in their push for promotion.
Red Dragons fans were amazed by Elliot Lee as he scored the game’s decisive goal directly from a corner, thanks to a generous assist from Storm Darragh, which caused havoc throughout the match.
There were concerns that the match may not take place, but Wrexham against Burton survived postponement to give the travelling away fans a trip to remember, despite the conditions.
However, one aspect they wouldn’t have enjoyed is the substitute cameo of star striker Paul Mullin, with many taking to social media to voice their opinion after the frontman missed a glorious chance to end his goal drought.

Wrexham fans react to shocking Paul Mullin miss
After another corner caused chaos in the Burton box, the ball was played back in from the edge for Mullin to collect in acres of space. Despite being just six yards out and with no defenders challenging him, Mullin hit a tame shot into the legs of Burton keeper Max Crocombe.
Wrexham fans immediately took social media in disbelief at what they had witnessed, with one saying: “That’s horrific from Mullin”, with another adding: “How does Mullin miss that, shocking!”
Another Wrexham fan said: “Shocking miss by Mullin,” whilst another said: “I wouldn’t say it was a fantastic save, it was a terrible miss from Mullin.”
One Red Dragons fan felt that it was Mullin’s League One form that caused the miss, saying: “Hate to say it but old Mullin buries that,” whilst another didn’t give him that credit, adding: “Mullin should’ve 100% scored, no composure.”
If the miss wasn’t bad enough, Mullin’s stats from the match showed that he couldn’t make a meaningful impact on the game in other aspects either.
Mullin’s stats vs Burton make for difficult reading
The shock miss ended up being Mullin’s only real impact on the game as he failed to impose himself in the 11 minutes he had on the pitch.
It was his only shot on target in the match, with the striker only managing to complete two passes in his time on the pitch, from just four touches altogether.
With Wrexham linked with Ethan Wheatley as a new striking option in January, Parkinson is clearly looking for a little more firepower from his Wrexham squad that isn’t being provided by Mullin currently.
Lee and Ollie Palmer have become the regular striking duo in recent weeks and if Mullin continues to produce misses like today, any new striker could end up taking his position in the squad, an unthinkable prospect for Wrexham fans at the start of the season.
