Wrexham take on Northampton Town in League One looking to continue their quest for promotion.

Phil Parkinson has chosen to continue with Mark Howard in goal despite Arthur Okonkwo putting in two excellent performances in the EFL Trophy.

Wrexham know that they must win the game in order to keep the pressure on Wycombe in the League One promotion race and Parkinson wanted Smith and Rodriguez to open their scoring accounts.

After 19 minutes, Smith did just that with a fine finish into the far corner following a long kick from keeper Howard.

Wrexham fans react to Sam Smith’s first goal for Wrexham

Smith is off the mark for Wrexham and the fans have taken to X to show their delight at the finish from the 26-year-old striker.

One Wrexham fan wrote: “Great finish from Smith that composure has been missing from our side for ages.”

Another Wrexham fan wrote: “What a finish and what a way to get off the mark for your first Wrexham goal, get in Sam Smith.”

One fan was hoping the goal may also spark Jay Rodriguez into scoring as well, they wrote: “Goal for Sam Smith. His first for Wrexham. With that now out of the way lets see how many more he can get. Pressure is off now. Hoping JRod gets one too.”

Paul Mullin not in the Wrexham matchday squad again

Paul Mullin has a shin injury and has been left out of the Wrexham matchday squad once again. The 30-year-old has struggled for consistent form this season with just three league goals to his name.

Nathan Salt thinks Mullin will struggle for minutes this season after the signings of Smith and Rodriguez have pushed Mullin further down the pecking order.

Rob McElhenney has made his feelings clear on Mullin but it does seem that his fairytale story at the Racecourse Ground may be coming to an end in the summer.

He will be hoping to get his chance before the end of the season and knowing Mullin, he will have one last moment to help this Wrexham side.
