Wrexham have advanced into the next round of the EFL Trophy after beating Crewe Alexandra 1-0 at the STōK Cae Ras on Tuesday night.

Wrexham were back at the STōK Cae Ras on Tuesday night, just days after beating Burton Albion on the road.

Home form has been sensational for Wrexham with Phil Parkinson racking up 200 home points since his appointment in 2021.

There were no points on offer on Tuesday night, but a spot in the next round of the EFL Trophy.

This wasn’t a classic by any stretch but Wrexham grabbed the win thanks to Aaron James.

James headed home Paul Mullin’s cross to hand Wrexham a 1-0 win and move a step closer to a Wembley final.

Wrexham fans vote for Man of the Match

Phil Parkinson praised James for his performance and his winning goal, but he wasn’t the Man of the Match.

Wrexham fans voted for goalkeeper Brad Foster as the Man of the Match after a strong debut performance between the sticks.

Foster signed for Wrexham over the weekend, arriving as a free gent having been released by West Bromwich Albion at the end of last season.

Arthur Okonkwo and Callum Burton are both injured so Parkinson has been scrambling for another goalkeeping option.

Foster was thrown into action against Crewe and produced a number of fine saves whilst commanding his area impressively well.

Foster earned praise from Parkinson whilst Wrexham fans raved about Foster’s display on social media, hoping to see him stay for a little longer.

That Man of the Match award just goes to show how much Wrexham fans appreciated his display and Foster certainly deserves that acclaim.

Brad Foster may change Phil Parkinson’s demands

Foster’s performance was superb and it may just leave Parkinson pondering his options.

Parkinson wanted another goalkeeping signing earlier this week but the EFL were standing in his way.

Wrexham couldn’t sign an emergency goalkeeper even with Okonkwo and Burton out, something Parkinson was ready to fight this week.

Parkinson may still want a loan option if the EFL show a willingness to budge, but Foster has given him food for thought.

Foster was so impressive against Crewe that Wrexham may well feel comfortable going ahead with him as second choice stopper until Okonkwo returns.

That is something for Parkinson to consider but his transfer priorities may well have changed after a superb display.
