Wrexham got back to winning ways against Peterborough this weekend, and while Steven Fletcher grabbed the goal, another player has earned praise.
After disappointment on New Year’s Day with defeat to Barnsley, Wrexham needed to get their 2025 back on track quickly.
Peterborough were the latest visitors to the Racecourse Ground, and Phil Parkinson’s side kept up their unbeaten home record with a narrow home win, secured by a fantastic Steven Fletcher header.
Parkinson hailed Fletcher’s role in the win, but other players in the Wrexham squad have been commended for their efforts, too.

Andy Morrell praises Ollie Rathbone for role in ‘tough’ win against Peterborough
The Red Dragons left it late again, with Fletcher popping up with the winning goal in the 87th minute, and Parkinson’s men had to dig deep to claim the vital three points.
Taking to Twitter/X after the game, Wrexham legend Andy Morrell hailed the team’s efforts in grinding out the win, and took time to celebrate Ollie Rathbone’s contribution to the performance.
He wrote: “Not a pretty one today and tough going at times! But when you need something as a team, up steps [Steven Fletcher] again! Just oozes quality! Mention to [Ollie] Rathbone too, as top drawer again!
This team has the knack of finding a way to win, 12 from 14 at home.”
Rathbone claimed the crucial assist for Fletcher’s goal in the dying moments, which was one of three key passes he made on the day.

Phil Parkinson needs to find the right balance in Wrexham midfield
Phil Parkinson is blessed with a brilliant squad that contains plenty of depth, but that means nothing unless the balance of the starting XI is right.
In recent weeks, we’ve seen George Dobson struggling in the middle of the park. He was replaced by Andy Cannon for the Peterborough game, and truth be told, the change really worked for Wrexham.
Of course, the key will be getting Elliot Lee back in that midfield three. The return of the playmaker will likely mean Rathbone and Matty James will need to be more defensive-minded, but the former has now proved he can be just as influential higher up the pitch, too.
