I watched Wrexham player fighting for his future vs Peterborough United and he didn’t disappoint

Wrexham played host to 18th-place Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon, eager to right their wrongs from the Barnsley defeat earlier in the week.

The Red Dragons were expected to dispatch Peterborough United with relative ease prior to the action getting underway.

But Ryan Barrnet missed out for Wrexham versus The Posh altogether and James McClean starting as a substitute meant Phil Parkinson had nowhere near his best eleven on the pitch.

Lewis Brunt and Elliot Lee were completely absent as well after also missing the Barnsley defeat on New Year’s Day.

It wasn’t a great start to the match for Wrexham, who had the majority of possession but didn’t really test the Peterborough goalkeeper in the first half.

Jacob Mendy played well for Wrexham vs Peterborough United

One player who did look sharp throughout the majority of his time on the pitch, however, was Jacob Mendy.

The 28-year-old had only played 21 minutes of league football prior to his start over the weekend.

And after previously being a key player in League Two, Mendy’s Wrexham future is in doubt now the winter window is open.

The left-back was named as one of nine players who could depart the Racecourse this month in a recent report.

In turn, Saturday’s match was a huge game for Mendy and after watching him in action, he did not disappoint.

Jacob Mendy stats during Wrexham vs Peterborough United

Mendy probably should have got himself an assist in the first half when he played a lovely ball across the box to Andy Cannon.

The midfielder’s first touch wasn’t great though and his effort was cleared by a Peterborough defender.

Regardless, The Gambia international still had a very good game and will surely have given Parkinson a lot to think about regarding his future at the club, especially when looking at his stats.
