Ben Foster had a prolific spell at Wrexham and did his best to raise the club’s profile.

Ben Foster joined Wrexham toward the end of 2022/23, coming out of retirement to help his former club.

The Red Dragons were pushing for automatic promotion from the National League after 15 years in the division.

Foster proved to be an amazing, short-term deal, becoming their number-one goalkeeper for the final couple of months of the season.

He made some big saves and won several games for the club, including a huge clash with Notts County that eventually led to their promotion.

While plying his trade at the Racecourse Ground, he also tried to help Wrexham on the recruitment front, urging one megastar to make the move to Wales.

Player Ben Foster wanted at Wrexham confirms retirement

Since their Hollywood owners took charge, Wrexham have become accustomed to signing some big names – Foster included.

Paul Mullin’s addition was huge at the time given he had just spent the previous season dominating in League One.

The signing of James McClean, who arrived with a plethora of Premier League experience, was also massive.

However, Foster wanted Wrexham to sign Nani last year as he was without a club at the time and that really would have been huge.

He said: “Nani hasn’t got a club everybody. I think he should come to Wrexham…Do you want to come to Wrexham?”

The former Manchester United player, who was alongside the goalkeeper at the time, replied: “You never know.”

The 38-year-old, of course, didn’t move to Wrexham and, as per BBC Sport, has now announced his retirement from playing this week after scoring 128 goals in 616 appearances at club level.

Ben Foster League One promotion prediction

Despite leaving early in 2023/24 after a rocky start to the campaign, the goalkeeper has kept up with the club and clearly remains a fan.

Foster made his Wrexham promotion prediction in May and he now looks like a real genius.

At the time, he said: “I think they’re going to invest again in another four or five, maybe half a dozen players.

“Good players, solid people, solid professionals that are going to raise the standard just a little bit more.

“But I think that what they’ve got in that team anyway is League One level. If you can add a little bit more quality, a bit more experience, I think they’re going to be there or thereabouts next season.

“And to go back-to-back-to-back, I don’t know if it’s been done before, but it’d be phenomenal.”

After beating Burton Albion over the weekend, Wrexham now sit joint-top of League One, only behind their rivals via goal difference.
