The Wrexham model has rapidly become the envy of many in the Football League over the last few years, and rightly so.

On Saturday, Wrexham secured a third-straight promotion. The Dragons beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 on home soil and will now compete in the 2025/26 Championship season.

For the Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney it’s another outstanding achievement. And whilst the club has their critics, who mainly cite money as the driving force behind the club’s success, it’s certainly much more than that.

The pair haven’t exactly pumped money into the club themselves but rather used their Hollywood status to attract sponsorships. Meanwhile, the Welcome to Wrexham documentary has helped garner a worldwide following for the club.

It’s a new and exciting model and one that could be undertaken by many more clubs in years to come. No doubt, Championship football and the newfound possibility of promotion to the Premier League gives the club even more financial prosperity.

Kieran Maguire says Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham now worth £150m

In 2021, Reynolds and McElhenney completed their Wrexham takeover for a fee believed to be in the region of £2million. Now, the club is worth £150million. That’s according to football finance expert Kieran Maguire speaking to BBC Sport.

Citing previous reports from Bloomberg that estimated Wrexham were worth £100million in March 2025, Maguire uses the Ipswich Town example to conjugate that Wrexham could now be worth somewhere in the region of £150million, which would be a 7,400% increase on what Reynolds and McElhenney previously paid for the club.

Maguire explained: “I suspect promotion was factored into the original valuation to a degree, but with the brand connection to the owners and now being 46 games away from the Premier League, that could add on another 50% to the value.

“Ipswich were valued at £100m in February 2024 [before promotion to the Premier League in May] so a good start to the season could push Wrexham above that by 50% or more due to the Ryan and Rob factor.”

Rob McElhenney’s Premier League dream for Wrexham

Back-to-back-to-back promotions has taken the footballing world by storm. Wrexham’s story simply cannot be ignored now – they’re serious about reaching the Premier League.

And the owners and everyone involved have built a serious global brand too and it only gets bigger and more popular every season. For McElhenney, the dream of reaching the Premier League has almost come true.

Speaking on 2021, McElhenney outlined his Premier League dream for Wrexham saying: “I don’t understand why, if that you can theoretically get there [Premier League] – we clearly have the structure and the system potentially to allow for us to grow at scale — why not dream big?”

Wrexham’s revenue streams only continue to grow and a new season of Welcome to Wrexham will only see a boost in popularity, fandom, and in turn, revenue. If the club can keep on doing what they’re doing then promotion to the Premier League could soon become a reality.
