Wrexham content has flooded social media in the last few days, following their fairy-tale promotion from League One.

It’s three in a row for Wrexham. They’ve been promoted in the last three seasons under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and manager Phil Parkinson, and next season will play in the second tier of English football for the first time in more than 40 years.

Wrexham finish 2nd in League One. On Saturday they beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 in an enthralling game and performance from the Dragons who end their season with a trip to Lincoln City on Saturday.

Goals came from Sam Smith and Ollie Rathbone on the day. Smith scored twice to take his Wrexham tally to seven in 17 League One games, and 18 for the season after joining from Reading midway through the campaign.

Wrexham paid £2million to sign Smith who became the club’s record signing in the process. He and his teammates will now have the chance to test themselves in the Championship next season.

Rob McElhenney reacts to edited video of Sam Smith goal for Wrexham

Smith’s first goal against Charlton Athletic came after 18 minutes. It lifted the roof off the Racecourse as the goal put Wrexham well in the clear to secure 2nd place, and it was a delightful goal too. Matty James lofted a pinpoint pass over the Charlton defence and Smith, over his shoulder, volleyed home.

And Wrexham co-owner McElhenney has now reacted to a clip of Smith’s goal but with Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ played over. The footage has gone somewhat viral among Wrexham fans and it’ll go reach even more people after McElhenney commented on it, which you can see below…

Sam Smith admits he was ‘desperate’ to join Wrexham

Speaking after promotion, Smith spoke about his move to Wrexham and revealed how he was desperate to make the move after hearing that the Dragons were interested.

Smith said: “There was a lot of pressure coming in and being quite a big signing.

“It’s something I enjoy, pressure is a privilege. When the opportunity came about, I was desperate to get in. I knew at this level I could help any team, I’ve proven that in the past. To get two goals [against Charlton] is just amazing.”

Those goals against Charlton alone make him a huge part of Wrexham’s incredible journey. And he’s given a good goals return since making the big money move from Reading.

The 27-year-old will no doubt play a key role next season and he could yet prove to be Wrexham’s talisman in the Championship.
