Already before the summer transfer window has even opened for business, two Wrexham transfers have been ruled out.
Wrexham have a monumental summer transfer window lying ahead of their following their promotion to the Championship on Saturday, after beating Charlton Athletic 3-0 on a memorable day at the Racecourse.
Indeed, memorable days are becoming quite the common thing at Wrexham. And there’s surely more to come with Wrexham and Phil Parkinson set to return to the second tier for the first time in more than 40 years, and set to play some of English’s footballs biggest-hitters.
Needless to say, the step up in quality will be the biggest that the team has faced so far. Parkinson and co need to get their summer transfer business spot on but we now know that two reportedly linked players won’t be joining.

Journalist rules out Jamie Vardy and Kevin De Bruyne to Wrexham
One name linked quite heavily with Wrexham is Jamie Vardy. Another who’s linked somewhat speculatively and hopefully by fans is Kevin De Bruyne. Vardy is leaving Leicester City this summer and it’s been claimed that Wrexham could sign Vardy following promotion to the Championship, and De Bruyne is leaving Man City, but likely moving to the MLS, it seems.
Speaking on ESPN FC, journalist Mark Ogden was discussing Wrexham’s summer transfer plans, and discussing comments from Parkinson where he said Wrexham won’t sign any egos or any superstar names this summer. Ogden then ruled out the potential signing of De Bruyne, unsurprisingly, but also appeared to rule out the Vardy move. too.
Ogden said: “He didn’t rule it out [Parkinson when asked about Vardy and De Bruyne], but I think we can rule it out, those two signings for a start. But, they are going to go about it in the right way.”
Phil Parkinson lays out Wrexham’s summer transfer plan
Wrexham don’t look set to diverge from the transfer practise that has landed them three-straight promotions. Why would they? It’s working them so far, and Parkinson has laid out Wrexham’s summer transfer plan following promotion to the Championship.
He said: “We’re going to do what we’ve done this year. We’re going to recruit the right players and try and get the squad as strong as we can, and enjoy the ride because I think that’s really important.
“There’s a lot of tough decisions to be made over the summer in terms of who we bring in and how we add to this fantastic group of lads we’ve got.”
His comments may hint at certain players leaving. Maybe ones who’ve been good servants for the club but aren’t needed anymore like Paul Mullin and Olly Palmer. But expect incomings to be at the fore of Parkinson’s thinking as many would argue that, right now, the current squad is nowhere near Championship-ready.
