Following the return of Steven Fletcher, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has delivered some more positive injury news about Aaron Hayden.

It has been a season to remember, so far, for Wrexham which currently sees them occupying third place in League Two.

Following promotion from the National League last season, Phil Parkinson has done a great job so far back in the EFL.

This hasn’t been done without injury and suspension problems which have often hampered the Reds. This week has seen George Evans pick up a red card which will see him out until the new year.

With that, there has been some positive news this week with Steven Fletcher and Ryan Barnett returning to training. The pair have both been out since October but are set to make an appearance in the coming weeks.

Now it appears there is another boost for Wrexham as the boss has opened up about Aaron Hayden’s injury trouble.

What has Phil Parkinson said about Aaron Hayden?

Last season was a tough one for Hayden. The Reds defender made 26 appearances but didn’t feature in a game post-January following an injury vs Sheffield United. He didn’t make his league return until the start of this campaign against MK Dons.

Until the Englishman suffered another injury against Yeovil Town in the FA Cup, he had featured in 12 league matches. With 974 minutes played, he has played a big part in the back three of Wrexham this season.

His injury was disappointing to Parkinson and the fans who felt they were once again seeing his best form at The Racecourse. With that being said, it appears that he might be making his return soon. Speaking with Leader Live, the Reds boss has opened up about Hayden.

On that, he said: “Aaron [Hayden] is making decent progress. It is only a slight injury but we will just see.”

For a slight injury, he has been out for over two weeks and it appears like his spell on the sidelines may last longer. This has seen players like Eoghan O’Connell return to the first team and impress. With Hayden returning, it might not be a straightforward return to the starting XI.

It must be said that Wrexham are a better side with Hayden in it. His return will improve the squad, that is for sure. Although it is unclear when he will be able to rejoin the squad, he and the fans will hope it is soon.
