Wrexham got rid of a total of eight players in the last summer transfer window. Here’s how they have fared since.

This time last year, Wrexham were gearing up for their first season back in League One following a second promotion in a row.

As was expected given the step up in level, Phil Parkinson made a lot of changes to his squad last summer.

Some previously key players were moved on and have gone on to thrive at their new clubs, while others have struggled.

Aaron Hayden

After being released by Wrexham, Aaron Hayden returned to his former club Carlisle United.

Rob McElhenney was full of praise for Hayden as he departed the Dragons, but his time away from Wales hasn’t gone too well.

Carlisle had a tough 2024/25, which ended with them finishing 23rd in League Two, suffering relegation to the National League.

Luke Young

Wrexham co-owner McElhenney’s favourite player is Luke Young, who was released at the end of his contract last season.

Like Hayden, Young dropped down to League Two, signing for Cheltenham Town.

They had a mixed season, finishing 15th in the fourth tier of English football.

Ben Tozer

After leaving Wrexham, Ben Tozer linked up with Forest Green in the National League.

Forest Green managed to secure a play-off place in 2024/25 but ultimately failed to win promotion.

Tozer retired from playing at the end of May 2025 but has since linked back up with the Red Dragons and is part of the Wrexham squad for The Soccer Tournament, which is currently taking place.

Jordan Tunnicliffe

Like Tozer, Jordan Tunnicliffe dropped down to the National League after leaving Wrexham.

He signed on a free transfer with Solihull Moors, for whom he played semi-regularly across 2024/25.

Solihull Moors finished 15th in the fifth tier this past campaign.

Scott Butler

Scott Butler did not make a single senior appearance during his stint at the Racecourse Ground.

He has found game time similarly hard to come by in the last 12 months after landing at Marine FC.

The former Swansea City man was a bit-part player for the National League North side, who earned a 15th-place finish.

Owen Cushion

Owen Cushion left Wrexham and linked up with Prescot Cables in August 2024, but his stint there lasted less than a month.

The midfielder signed for Witton Albion on August 30, managing just 28 days with that club.

Cushion then secured his third transfer of the season on November 23, 2024, when he joined Burscough FC.

Rob Lainton

Rob Lainton spent nearly nine months without a club after his departure from Wales.

Wrexham fans were overjoyed at Lainton signing for Altrincham at the end of February 2025.

However, the goalkeeper suffered an injury and is now set to be released by his current team at the end of June.

Callum McFadzean

Like Lainton, Callum McFadzean has really struggled since he was let go by Wrexham last summer.

In fact, the 31-year-old has been without a club for the last year and has not played a single minute of football.

However, McFadzean has finally found a new club, signing for Radcliffe this week.
