Wrexham have had a huge turn over of players since the first day of the takeover in 2021.

As ever with football, the Wrexham squad has had to adapt and evolve with their rise up the football pyramid and now have a team competing at the top end of League One.

Phil Parkinson has had to make difficult decisions on a number of players and Parkinson has made his stance clear on Paul Mullin after the striker was dropped to the reserve side.

Fan favourites such as Ben Tozer and Luke Young all departed the club on good terms in search of their new projects and another player fondly remembered at the club has made a new career in the National League but faces some familiar problems.

Rob Lainton suffers injury playing for Altrincham

Former Wrexham goalkeeper Rob Lainton has suffered yet another injury whilst playing for his new side Altrincham in the National League.

Lainton signed for Altrincham in February 2025, having been without a club since his release from the Red Dragons last summer.

His time at the Racecourse Ground was blighted by injuries and in his latest outing in the National League, he was taken off in the 36th minute after yet another collision with an opposition player.

The extent of the injury is not yet known but for a player with so much ill-fortune through injury, he and everybody in football will be hoping for good news as he looks to build on his nine appearances for Altrincham so far.

Lainton’s Wrexham career could have been different

Wrexham fans were overjoyed at Lainton signing for Altrincham having given his all for the Red Dragons in his 133 appearances for the club.

With Arthur Okonkwo out of form earlier in the season, there were some Wrexham calls to re-sign Lainton however, the goalkeeper chose Altrincham as the next step in his footballing journey.

He produced on a consistent basis for Parkinson’s side and was arguably the best goalkeeper in the National League before horrific injuries, both times away at Bromley put a halt to his momentum.

Lainton suffered a broken wrist in March 2022 before then going down with a knee ligament injury at the same ground just a year later, an injury that kept him on the sidelines for over a year.
