Former Wrexham ace Ben Foster has discussed what has changed about the club since his first spell with the Red Dragons in 2005.

Under the stewardship of Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, Wrexham have been transformed as a club, going from lingering in the National League to becoming an international powerhouse.

The Wrexham owners have brought eyes to the club from across the globe, with there being a large contingent of supporters across the globe, whilst an Australian fan base has emerged amid the pre-season tour from Down Under.

For fans who had close ties to the club before Reynolds and Mac took over, they have overseen vast changes, something that has also been recognised by Ben Foster.

Former Wrexham shot-stopper Foster played for the club on two separate occasions, with the first taking place in 2005. In between the two spells at the North Wales-based outfit, Foster has noticed things that have changed, but also what feels exactly the same about the club.

Ben Foster discusses the changes at Wrexham under Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac

After joining up with Wrexham on their Australia pre-season tour, Ben Foster has documented the ongoings from Down Under on his YouTube channel.

Foster has kept close ties with Wrexham after he came out of retirement to play for the club at the back-end of their National League-winning season, as well as playing a part at the start of their follow-up campaign in League Two.

During his adventures, Foster has spoken to Wrexham director Shaun Harvey, whilst also discussing the evolution of the club since his first stint in 2005.

“The main thing is that it’s still the same club,” said Foster. “That’s the bar, that’s the essence of it that’s still matters the most, that it’s still the same football club. The community’s there, it still feels and tastes the same, but it’s a lot shinier.”

Ben Foster has always been complimentary of Wrexham since his Red Dragons spell

Foster’s tenure at Wrexham was short, but he no doubt made many memories during his time at the club.

Even still, Foster is regarded as a hero for Wrexham after he dropped down to the National League to help consolidate their position as the National League winners.

As well as being complimentary of Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac for maintaining the club’s roots, ensuring that widespread changes are not made to the foundations, he has also praised them previously for the ambition shown since taking over the club.

Speaking about Reynolds and Mac back in March 2025, Foster said: “I think Wrexham can sign players off the back of this so much easier and so many, better, talented players than what other teams could.

“Wrexham are able to sign Championship-quality players in League Two, in League One. They can sign them players because of the allure of what sort of Wrexham offers them, really. It’s incredible what they’ve done with it.”
