Wrexham have been making changes to their squad ahead of 2025/26, with Phil Parkinson opening up on one exit.

Wrexham have completed two signings in the 2025 summer transfer window so far.

Danny Ward has signed on a free transfer after his contract with Leicester City expired.

Ryan Hardie has joined from Plymouth Argyle in a reduced deal worth £700,000 thanks to the Greens’ relegation from the Championship.

Meanwhile, a number of players have left the club in the last month or so.

Wrexham have released eight senior players, including the likes of Steven Fletcher and Mark Howard.

Elsewhere, Paul Mullin has moved to Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2025/26 season, but he could make his Wrexham return in January thanks to a recall clause in that deal.

Most recently, goalkeeper Luke McNicholas has joined Forest Green Rovers from Wrexham.

How Ben Foster impacted Luke McNicholas at Wrexham

McNicholas initially joined Wrexham on loan in 2023 from Irish side Sligo Rovers.

He then completed a permanent transfer to the club on January 23, 2024.

During the early stages of his stint at Wrexham, McNicholas was competing with Ben Foster.

Foster joined Wrexham on an initial short-term deal at the end of 2022/23 to help the club win promotion from the National League.

The former Watford man then signed a new deal and started 2023/24 as the club’s first-choice keeper in League Two.

However, Foster decided to retire early in that season, with the club going on to replace him with Arthur Okonkwo.

Now, as per Leader Live, Phil Parkinson has shared how McNicholas was impacted by Foster leaving Wrexham and Okonkwo being brought in.

He stated: “We initially brought Luke in when we had Ben Foster here. To support Ben and be a goalkeeper we could work with and develop.

“Obviously, Ben retired and we signed Arthur who is a young keeper so it blocked Luke’s progress a little bit.

“He went on loan at the start of last season to Rochdale and did well but then he had some injury problems.

“Forest Green have obviously monitored what he has done in the National League and were very keen to sign him.”

Phil Parkinson’s wish for Luke McNicholas

McNicholas spent part of 2024/25 on loan with Rochdale and is set to compete in the National League next term.

Former player Ben Tozer previously enjoyed some success at Forest Green before retiring at the end of 2024/25.

Parkinson is now hoping McNicholas does well for Tozer’s old team.

He added: “He is a good lad and I really hope he does well. He is a very good goalkeeper.

“We felt he would go out on loan because he is at that stage where he needs games for his development.

“However, we also thought that if a club comes in and makes an offer, we would also consider that.

“Forest Green did that and we decided to sell him, and we wish him all the best.”
